Rifle Scopes Anyone added ZeroStop turrets to their NF?

I just purchased a used Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56 from a member and wondered if anyone had added Zero-Stop turrets to their non-zero model. Does this require a return to factory or is it field installable? I'm simply weighing my options and wanted to poll the experts.

If you have them, do you use it often?

Is it worth the extra expense?

Quite frankly, I'm a benchrest shooter so I don't think that I'll be in a "situation" that demands a quick RTZ, but I think the feature would be convenient.

You have to send it back to NF to have it done and I read from someone who works for NF that current turnaround is about 4 weeks.

I realize these are subjective questions, but:

To those who have ZeroStop now, do you use it often?

Is it worth the extra expense?

Again, I'm shooting from the bench now, so the convenience seems to be the only benefit to me. That and the overall value of the optics if I ever sell this to upgrade.

NF F1 has zero-stop as standard.

FINALLY had mine mounted today on the GAP, range report will have to wait, but it looks cool. My mall-ninja-fu has advanced 3 belts.

I had a zero stop installed several years ago on a NF 3-15 NSX, and as best I can recall I had the scope back in a couple of weeks. I think a zero stop is essential on any scope which has more than two turns of elevation available. Anybody who has shot much long range competition (in the real world, vs. at their keyboard) has gotten a turn off in elevation at one time or another, and most of us have done it more than once. I see it happen all the time in F-Class competition. Of course a zero stop won’t keep you from shooting with the wrong dope on your rifle, but at least you won’t be wondering if you are one or two turns off on your elevation…

I would definitely get a zero stop. I had a freind at the range who wanted to look at my new SS I put on my varmint AR. I had it zero'ed at 200yd and was getting my yardage figured out to 600yds. I didn't count the number of hash marks below the knob. Any way he ask if he can mess around with the scope and I said of course. Well he starts to move the elevation turret. He didn't remember which revolution he was on. No harm there because I was at the range and started shooting at 200yds first shot had not idea turned the knob 1 revolution bingo!. Now I know how many hash marks are below my knob.

Moral of the story. Had I been at a match I would have been SOL. Had I had a zero stop no harm at all I would be able to continue. So if I can ever afford a high end optic a zero stop will be a no brainer.

This is exactly what I was expecting to hear. Unfortunately <span style="font-style: italic">or now perhaps for the best</span>, my deal fell through on the used non-zero 5.5-22 NXS. I'll now focus on a zero-stop model.

I liked the zero stop but I didn't like the fact that I lost the revolution scale under the turret. The second scope I got I didn't get the zero stop and I have not missed it at all.

You bring a great perspective to light, dmg24. For some reason, all I seem to hear are glowing reviews of most everything NF does. This is not what I was expecting to hear, but more of what I wanted to hear. Especially since my predominant use will be from the bench where I can easily see where I'm dialed.

For you perhaps it would be more convienience than necessity, but for anyone doing tactical comps or hunting its a huge benefit (or a 2yr old that likes the sound of the clicks on daddy's rifle). Kenton industries sells their knobs with a zero stop installed. You could probably get one done through them. I think the BDC knobs are about $100

Thank you for the lead on Kenton Industries. I like the way they're marked. Simple and it makes sense. I can look for a NF without zero-stop and know that it can be added later more reasonably priced through K.I.

Now, if I can only find another good deal on a NightForce....

I added a zero stop to my NF 5-22x50 and also had the turrets changed from MOA to Milrads to match my MIl-dot ret. The total with shipping was $320 and imho was worth every penny. Very happy with both the zero stop and the new mil turrets.

plastic washers ... make your own zero stop silly rabbit. there is a guy here on the hide that sells them for few bucks.

Brilliant, I saw where others drilled and tapped the top of the existing turret..This would certainly suffice...

It is so easy to get off by a turn and I did it way too much. Sent my moa scope in and got it turned into mils with zero-stop....worth the money to me.

If you're dropping $1400 on a piece of glass, I wouldn't recommend drilling it... get it done right by the manufacturer.
