Member Link Up Anyone from Connecticut?

Re: Anyone from Connecticut?

I live in Naugatuck. I am a Range Officer and Member up at High Rock Range in the Naugatuck State Forest. I shoot only at my range. I really like to shake the place up there with my AR50.

Re: Anyone from Connecticut?

I used to be a member at High Rock, until one of the "tools" that fancy themselves something tried to correct me in front of a group of people, rather large group, because in the safety brief I said "weapon" instead of "firearm". It was his first and last mistake as I never returned and ended up tossing a fist full of money at him. Not to mention the loud choice words.

Back to your "Shake up", it's a tiny 100 yard range, if you set up in the center everyone to both your left and right will feel the muzzle blast - so I don't know what you plan to accomplish other than causing a lot of noise. They will probably shut the place down for an investigation and then ban anything over a .22... If you do decide to shoot it, I recommend hitting the ledge on the right.

Re: Anyone from Connecticut?

The range is fine the way it is. If it was bigger then we'd possibly have the problems that other ranges in CT do .As far as the other Range Officer, I have had disagreements with some and then move on. You throw your money at me and I'd be keeping it. I could use some new M33 ball ammo
smile.gif

Also, the Range Officer that corrected you by using the term Firearms was right and you were wrong. The definition of the word Weapon:
1. any instrument or device for use in attack or defense in combat, fighting, or war, as a sword, rifle, or cannon.
2. anything used against an opponent, adversary, or victim: the deadly weapon of satire.

While you are up at High Rock Shooting Range, You are not doing any of this that is described above. So you did have a Firearm.

As far as what I plan to "accomplish" as you call it up there with my AR50, I bought it and shoot it at my will up there as long as my club still allows the .50BMG's. It's fun and sure , it does make allot of noise but all guns make noise. If someone doesn't like the blast then move on to a range thats costs a premium. Most of my range time is done on non-public time so no worries there. If I decide to shoot it? I got 100 or shots already down range.

Either way I live right down the hill from there, Quiet during member hours, Easy Membership Dues. Good enough range for me.

Re: Anyone from Connecticut?

I thought it was funny too....

Speaking of which

I am off on Mondays, Anyone want some free range time up at high Rock when I go up there. You can shoot with me. Granted the range is only 100 yards but if you're up for it..let me know. I'll be up there this coming Monday at some time.

Re: Anyone from Connecticut?

Well now it looks like you contacted the actual range officer who had the exchange w/ LL. Here's the point, that range officer guy is a phucking pinhead. You want to have arguments over the semantics of firearm vs. weapon? By the way, quit changing the text of your posts after people reply to them. What's funny was your stupid post after LL's comment. Good luck with your 50 on your 100 yard range.

Actually no..I haven't contacted anyone. I don't hang out or talk to guys in my club. They do preach the weapon vs. firearm thing though. I don't care what they call it....they have their rules though. I'm just a member that likes to shoot.

I can edit things as much as I'd like to. That's why the button is there. Is it really necessary to inult me about my "stupid post". Grow up.

BTW: Why are you reading CT information anyways? You just like to stir stuff up?

Look, no more stupid or insulting posts please. I wasn't there when LL got insulted but those are the rules they make. All I stated was the reason why they call it what they do.

To the guys willing to shoot up there for some free time, let me know. I don't need the garbage of the trolls or the such. just looking for some shooting buddies.

Re: Anyone from Connecticut?

Well if you say so Chris. But if you put it out there you should expect anyone and everyone will read what you say. Some will disagree and be candid in pointing it out. Good luck with your search though. Maybe you will find a good shooting partner who will see past the dogma that club is espousing. Also, have a good Thanksgiving.

Re: Anyone from Connecticut?

Ah,

Quote:

Also, the Range Officer that corrected you by using the term Firearms was right and you were wrong. The definition of the word Weapon:

So, a firearm isn't used for defense... it can't be used in an attacked. Just because you pulled a single definition to suit your needs doesn't mean a firearm cannot be a weapon. It's just a PC thing and has nothing to do with truth or reality... I can defend myself and others with a firearm, I can attack, engage in combat, etc... so tell me how i am wrong.

You're typical of the people who frequent High Rock, by the way, some more definitions, this one of use of Personal Weapon.

A personal weapon is a weapon that can be carried and employed by a single person, although its use may be restricted to specialist members of attack or defense teams.
Personal weapons are employed by:
Infantry, dragoon and cavalry in pursuit of objectives of war, both defensive and offensive.
Military officers, military aviators, and cannoneers for self defense.
Police and military police forces on patrol.
Military, penal, and private guards.
Individuals for home, business or personal defense.
Warriors of various martial arts.
Hunters. (See hunting weapon.)
Bodyguards.
Civil aviators as wilderness survival gear.

Re: Anyone from Connecticut?

NRA policy is also to never refer to firearms as weapons. I understand the reasoning behind that, as the NRA doesn't wish to alarm the sheep.

I disagree with that policy. Personally, I have no interest in firearms other than as weapons.

And I think maybe the sheep need to be alarmed from time to time. There are people who think that the Second Amendment to the Constitution protects the rights of hunters. That's dangerously incorrect.

Chris,
I'm in Prospect. I don't know if you shoot all through the winter, but if you do, I'd be up for it. As I'm typing this, it's pouring out, and they're calling for snow tomorrow.
If we ever get a day when nothing is falling from the sky, I've got a new toy I've been dying to play with. I'd even be willing to plow a couple lanes at the range.
Let me know.

Re: Anyone from Connecticut?

Got a 400 yard range up in Ledyard. Can set up a range day sometime if people want.

Wow! I didn't know there was a 400 yd range in CT. I'm definitely interested. This weather is killing me. I could use a little gunpowder fix. I'm sending you my E-mail. Let me know if you're going to set something up.

I'm from the Hartford area ... I shoot at a local 100 yard range but would love to get a "shot" at some longer distances.

Re: Anyone from Connecticut?

Had some fun with some fellow CT guys today at the range. Weather was nice and range was empty. Had a good time hanging with Jon, John, Matt and Ben today. Will make another day in the future and get schonweg out there too.

Re: Anyone from Connecticut?

From a topic started 7 months ago by JonemtP, and a invite by Rob01 to his range, today turned into a great day in March to meet some fellow forum members, and stretch the legs of our rifles.
This is the 3rd trip out with my rifle, and first time shooting over 100 yards with it. Thanks for all the pointers and help. On to some pictures !!

Re: Anyone from Connecticut?

Thanks again to Rob01 for the invite and a great time putting some faces with names and burning some powder after a long winter!

My budget build was holding its own until ringing steel made me forget about paper altogether. SPS Tactical, Falcon Menace 4-14, B&C Light Tactical Stock w/ BH 175 SMK. Shooting around .75MOA once I got it dialed in with the help of Rob01. Group below was .758MOA @ 400 yards.

Remington 700 LTR, Mark 4 base and Steel rings, Leupold Mark 2 6-18 mil-dot scope Using Federal Gold Medal 168's.

This was also my best taget for the day, 400 yards, but it MUST have been somebody else shooting at it. Im definatly not this good.

Re: Anyone from Connecticut?

Hey everyone, just registered today! I'm looking to get into precision rifles thought this would be a good place to become a member.

Good to see plenty of guys from CT. I am a member over at arfcom too!

Re: Anyone from Connecticut?

Ian,
Welcome! If youre looking to learn about long range shooting, you've come to the right place. I just joined up within the last 2 months, and I've learned more than I could have thought possible. There are some really great guys on here that are more than willing to help out a new guy. Spend as much time as you can reading other peoples questions and answers, and keep an open mind.
And most importantly, whatever you do, no matter what, don't EVER, under ANY circumstances, ask a question about Counter Sniper scopes. (do a search and you'll see what I mean).
Once again,Welcome, and enjoy.
Matt

Re: Anyone from Connecticut?

Very cool! Looks like you guys shook off the winter ice in style. I took the little lady for a motorcycle ride and a trip to the indoor range at S&W.

Looking forward to meeting up for the next 400 yard shoot!

Re: Anyone from Connecticut?

Hey gents- figured I'd extend an invite here to any interested parties to join our Northeast Tactical shooter's group - it's an email list for people from CT to ME I started recently. We've had two outings so far to the Pemigewasset rifle range - 900 yards or thereabouts. Pics and chatter about it here:

Really good group of guys and a healthy dose of tactical gear, which you don't come by often in these parts.

If interested, just drop me a PM with your email address and I'll be glad to add you!

Best,
BB

Re: Anyone from Connecticut?

What happened to all the Ct guys? Did everyone move to some other state with less restrictive gun laws?LOL
I just picked this up:

(HS Precision Pro2000-SA HTR in .308 win)
I'm ready to go!

Re: Anyone from Connecticut?

Still here and I know Jon is too because I saw him at Cabelas the other day LOL

Nice new rifle. I am going to get some new steel up at the 400 yard line soon. 8", 6" and 4" circles courtesy of LVSteel targets. We'll have to make a day out again.

Re: Anyone from Connecticut?

I wish I could go to Cabela's too. I'm not allowed near there for a while because I spent all my money on this and ammo(My wife doesn't know about the Vortex PST thats comming next!).
Next time out, I'll make sure I have some spray paint in the truck. I have a feeling those steels may need it.
Looking forward to it,
Matt
P.S Do you think you'll have your new "toy" by then?

Re: Anyone from Connecticut?

Hey Rob, nice talking to you at Cabelas. We ended up heading down to Newington Gun Exchange and my buddy ended up getting a sweet deal on a Glock 23 with the LE discount. The Barrett you won, what caliber is it?

Re: Anyone from Connecticut?

338 Lapua. Good talking to you guys too. Nice that Newington Gun Exchange had some in. Like I was telling you I got my 19 there at the discount. We hit Hoffman's and got my buddies rifle and then down to Connecticut Firearms and Tactical in Orange to pick up my .308 POF so it was a good day of gun picking up LOL

Re: Anyone from Connecticut?

Thanks, Sniperdude! I'll be really happy if it shoots as good as it looks. I'm sure the rifle's capable, I just have to see what I can make it do.
I see your in Ridgefield. I used to work down in your neck of the woods. Nice area. Any shooting nearby?
