Dont go to Texas to often, I just want to check one out in person. Also a little concerned on the wait time to get one. I have not verified, but I have heard that it is two years. Anyone know if that is true?
In my opinion they aren't worth the money. I know the guy who just set the world record 1000yd record, with an agg around 3inches. He's the most anal Reloader I know. And he doesn't use one. I just see no need for something like that. Save your money dude. Seriously
It depends on how bad you want one. As to the wait time. Want one bad enough you could have one in 2 days
That's a sweet story. But I never asked if anyone thought it was worth it or necessary.
I realize you can expedite shipping... Im not sure of where you can buy one,or lease or whatever it is. I would like to see one work in person, before putting up $3200. I also would possibly like to build my own.
LOL 2 days....good luck with that. They are nice.....but I got annoyed after getting in line.....following up 6 months later like he said to and no response. Then 2 years later out of the blue I get a email from Brand about it....and the price jumped 350 from what I was quoted.
Honestly your probably better off buying a scale that weights to .005gr, a omega trickler, and believe it or not Lee Perfect Powder Dropper. You can generally get a .01gr accurate charge in about 15-20secs depending on how fast you are. And you get that now for 1200ish with no "lease".

They are ultra fast and ultra accurate. Worth every penny and then about another grand. If you value your time and want the most consistent powder charges, this is the machine for you. I would highly recommend it to anyone serious about their reloading and shooting.

its a 25 year lease, its a legal thing. I would not sweat it as Brand will be in his 70's at the 25 year mark

I don't really get the whole lease thing bashing, it's not like a apartment or car lease. If the lease agreement was a bad thing for me, I would blab to everyone and anybody about how bad it sucks, but not a single person, including me has a problem with the lease, it simply keeps Brands work of art his, and keeps China, or anyone else from stealing it, and tying him up in court until he dies while they make money off his design. As for the wait, it was worth it, 1/3 of a kernel accuracy every 8-10 seconds, from a hand made scale/dispensing system cost money, I worked overtime, and saved my penny's, I could have had another custom rifle, custom 2011 pistol, or a S&B scope, instead I got a Gen 2 Prometheus, and have no regrets.
I really want one... but don't want to wait the two years. I really am thinking about building my own version of it. From the pictures I have seen, there isnt a single thing on it that I can't make myself, but that is only in the limited pictures I could find of one. If anyone has one that they want to get rid of, let me know.
There's nothing wrong with it, it's just weird. A lease doesn't accomplish any of those things you mentioned. That's what patents, trade secrets, etc, are for. A lease is usually a financing mechanism. Is he trying to keep people from using it commercially? I noticed there is a big label slapped on the front that says it's illegal to use for commercial purposes, which is also weird, because it's untrue. It's all very strange from a business perspective.
you guys know there's a solution to the 2 year wait on these & guns.
if everyone canceled there orders and forced a few of these businesses out of business gun makers included they would not take on more work than they can produce in a reasonable time frame.

The lease has nothing to do with protecting his Intel. As someone already said, that's what patents are for. Lease does nothing to protect legally. The reason he leases, is probably more so to prevent a used sales market and ensure that he gets all the profit from each sale. It's a selfish reason, but well within his right, as long as people are still buying it.
You don't own it and don't believe you will keep it past the 25 year mark. Your leasing form the company and his sons or whoever else will take it over.
Obviously if there's a two year wait, then he doesn't have to do anything different to keep himself happy. But I know if it wasn't a lease thing and it was for sale in a reasonable time I would buy it. I'm sure many feel like me.
Only a matter of time till its recreated. There no 'secret sauce' involved. It's as simple as it gets. I'm sure it's a great machine, but there are thousands of engineers out there that create much more complicated machinery (including things like bridges).. Including my father, but unfortunately most got better shit to do in their spare time.

Next to my Giraud Trimmer, my Prometheus was the best money I've ever spent on reloading. I work quite a bit, and have two very young kids, so time is always what I have the least of. In time savings alone, the Prometheus paid for itself in just under 6 months.
I also shoot matches when I can, and I'm here to tell you that making 200 rounds of ammo for a match sucks. But it sucks less when I have it done in under an hour, including bullet pointing. It sucks MUCH less when you run the ammo over the chronograph and see single digit everything...because now you can't blame your ammo for misses.
Ultimately, like everything with reloading, you pay for speed and accuracy, especially when you combine the two. The Prometheus has both in spades, and the bonus is the Brand is a super guy to talk with. He has some of the best customer service in the industry.

That's just it. Anyone can copy it, even if there are patents. If someone in China wanted to make one, they would have by now. They don't because the market is tiny, not because of any lease agreement (They're not shy about disregarding IP). In fact, it's a pretty low-tech machine, although expertly assembled. I get the feeling that if I took $3000 to the local electronics enthusiasts club and told them to build something as good, they'd be able to in well short of 2 years. Heck, I've been thinking about doing so myself just for the fun of it.
I have heard of them being sold, so that doesn't seem to work.
If the goal is to keep commercial reloaders from using them, why? Makes no sense. It hardly seems appropriate for commercial use anyhow outside of a ballistics lab.
The lease is very strange, and it does keep me from wanting one. I've learned to be wary of over-lawyering over the years.

As to the wait time, I ordered a Gen II in early september 2012, and took delivery in mid-february 2013. Just over 5 months. Not speaking for Brand or his current wait times, but that's how long it took to get mine. I switched to the Gen II from a Sartorius GD 503 with Omega trickler and it is a night and day difference. Same accuracy and repeatability but in half the time, and I can do other reloading tasks while it measures the charge. I fully intend to continue making money in my lifetime, but I've only got so much time.
Lol. Another dude that thinks an over priced unnecessary piece of reloading equipment is a proper substitute for fucking practice. Buy the scale dude, it will make you shoot like Lowlight. Just like the "helicopter lure" made me catch bass like Roland Martin. . . .
I never said any of that or implied it... I asked if anyone had one near me I could come look at. I also realize that only practice will make me a better shooter, that would be why I am interested in getting the same quality ammo or maybe better than I currently have, in a shorter time period.... That way, I can have more time to practice and less time reloading.

the genII is as awesome as they say. the vast majority of the big boys on here are runnin em. the price is super high and they are super fast and accurate. people hate on them for those reasons. will they make you place top 5 by themselves N O

It's all a matter of perspective, "dude". Lots of folks would never spend the $330 on an over-priced, unnecessary piece of reloading equipment like a Chargemaster when they can get a lee powder measure for $30. Others would never spend $170 on high end dies when Lee sells dies for $30. Maybe you would never take your wife out to a nice restaurant because McDonald's sells value meals for $5. The Prometheus is about time. I don't know how much yours is worth, but i know what mine is. I also don't know how you or Lowlight shoot, but I know that I shoot pretty well, and I know how to load pretty good ammo, too. The less time I have to spend screwing around with loading, the more time I have to do more important things.

No need to clean it after use, nor do you need to calibrate. I spot check my rounds on a Scott Parker tuned balance scale to ensure that everything is kosher, and have never had to re-adjust anything. I have close to 5k of .223 and 8208, with no adjustments necessary. The only downside is that the powder hopper is somewhat difficult to empty, so you need to watch how much you put in vs. how many rounds you have left.
Yes, it does use a handmade mechanical balance, and it's literally a work of art.

Depends on what you consider better off. Using a Chargemaster to throw charges .1 low and then trickling to final weight on a scale like the GD503 will get you the same level of accuracy as the Prometheus will for 1/2 the cost. I used this method for all of my important loads before switching to the Prometheus and it works just fine. The trade off is that the Prometheus can do it in about 1/4 the time, and it does it all by itself. All you do is move the lever on the powder measure when it's ready and it drops the charge. It is about as fast as a well-tuned Chargemaster by itself, 10 seconds per charge or so. It does not need to be calibrated once it's set up, but it takes a little time to set the charge weight. Not a lot of time(less than 10 minutes), but more than you'd want to spend if you were doing load development and working up in .2 grain increments. I use the Chargemaster and GD503 when I am doing load development, then use the Prometheus to crank out ammo when I find the load. I can load around 150 rounds of absolute top-grade ammo per hour with powder charges within a single kernel of each other using this tool.

I agree, I'm already in this sport head deep, I stopped trying to save money months ago! I just bought a viritas scale and it was drifting like craZy, so I'm a little afraid of getting another electric scale. How much is the promethius and is there really a two year wait?

lol no worries dude. I'm perfectly happy with the GD503, Omega Trickler, and Lee Perfect Powder Dispenser. Same lvl of accuracy just do it in 15 secs and I have to pay attention during the reloading process *shrugs*
Best reloading investment I ever made and to the doushe bag, it didn't make me a better shooter but it sure as hell helped me load more precision ammo in 1/4 the time. To the guy that wants to see one, I live in Pueblo, Colorado and would be glad to let you see mine. JVON
If you are going to trickle onto a good quality scale, there is no need for a Chargemaster to dispense .1 light. Buy the cheapest powder throw you can find. You don't need accuracy / repeatability. I use a Lee. Much faster than waiting for the Chargemaster. One crank of the handle then on the scale to trickle with the Omega.

I would much rather spend my evenings with my family than reloading ammo
Yes they are expensive but over the long run they will pay for themselves 10 fold in time savings.
