Rifle Scopes Anyone hear of issues WRT Premier Heritage scopes?

Unconfirmed report regarding Premier Heritage scopes from a guy (with admittedly bad typing skills, who otherwise knows his shit) recently returned from a training class:

So without getting worked up over bad spelling/grammar/hyperbole/etc, are they any other reports out there to confirm issues with Premier Heritage scopes not holding zero? I own one myself, so I'm not looking to bash this optic. But I only have about 40 rounds through my gun with this optic, so if there are issues, I'd like to know.

i surely wouldn't agree w/ that post. when asked what was wrong w/ them all he said was they didn't hold their zero and that they were hunks of shit before i believe that i will need a bit more elaboration. if they didn't hold their zero's i would almost guarantee one of the hundreds of ppl here w/ them would have already made posts about it. i mean i know tons of ppl have shot thousands of rounds w/ them and no problems. Me personally i have shot 150 rounds of 168 gr match ammo and it held its zero for that and is the best glass i have seen. most people on here are very unforgiving and straight forward and there has been very few negative posts on here about premier's. use the search and check out all the feedback on them.

i agree falar but just figured i would throw out mine a couple buddies experience's w/them after tons of rounds and no problems on any of them. my buddies had their before mine and we put a lot of rounds down range w/ 50's 338's and 308's and never had a single problem. either way just figured i would let him know my experience's

<span style="font-weight: bold">IF</span> there is any validity at all to this field report, I'm going to speculate these SF guys didn't have the lever-locks tight enough on their elevation knobs.

As some of you PH owners know, when this is the case, the knobs will still appear to function fine, but the internal adjustment of the scope will not move, or will not be repeatable as they are suggesting.

Mind you there is nothing wrong with the scope at all, just pure ignorance of the operator. That concept is nothing new . . .

Is this the likely cause? Well, I can tell you that after five or more years on the market, Mark LaRue still gets ass-clowns who call him up and complain about how his throw-lever mounts don't fit their AR-15!

When something is made adjustable, someone will inevitably fuck it up. And I've come to realize it is not at all related to one's pay grade or the number of confirmed kills. The guy reporting gives me the impression he immediately jumps to fellatio whenever his SF buddies speak.

Wow, calm down people. Maybe the scopes aren't working correctly, maybe it was operator error. Shit happens. Things break.

People are so quick to get defensive because the product they spent their hard earned money on has had a bad review. I have an LWRCi M6A2 and if I got my panties in a wad everytime someone doesn't like one I'd be on meds.

I would take this as something to be on the lookout for...just in case. But, like everyone said...I'm next in line to buy one of the broken pieces of crap. I'll even pay $300 or will they take trade on a HK USP45 with 250 rounds down the tube? 3 clips.

I hope Premier comes out with a Heritage model with traditional set screws for releasing the turrets. I think the zipper is a very cool and innovative design, but unnecessary for <span style="font-style: italic">my</span> needs . I kind of prefer a set it and forget it type of setup. The set screws may not be cutting edge, but they are effective and proven.

If I was repeatedly loosening them, to the point that it became bothersome, I could see the quick adjust "zippers"(as they were coined) being awesome, but for something I only do once, and then I am done, I prefer to not have to worry about it.

I assume there are plenty of guys who move scopes around from platform to platform, and I can see the allure for these shooters. I am sure that once they have been out for a while and become proven, it will be a moot point.

I took off the Premier and put my back up S&B 4-16X42 w/Gen II XR reticle on it (love that little scope it's one of my all time favorites). Quickly zeroed it and shot a bughole group at 100 on paper. Then I dialed in what I needed for 550 and pounded that little steel plate for a long time. I was over ten hits straight when I stopped and I didn't miss it once. </div></div>

i believe that this is all hype. Now dont get me wrong theres always a bad apple in the basket. But i think that if these scopes were having the troubles that you guys are reading, i think that Frank or any of the other people who tested the prototype models out would have found some problems. Im quite sure that they are putting more abuse than what these guys who are reporting these problems.

Hi I'm Marc and I made that post on Sniper Country. I posted it there because I feel more comfortable there since I've known those guys for close to ten years and I feel like it's a "small bar". Sometimes this site is too much when someone wants to talk about optics. Nothing gets panties in a wad quicker it seems. I see it beginning in this thread already.

My scope did take a dump. So have other Premiers in my club. For sure there have been 2 of the new 5-25's that have gone down in the field very early after mounting. I heard about another that showed tracking problems on a boresighter and was sent back without being confirmed in the field. At least one 3-15 I know of was sent back because the adjustment ring locked up and had some kind of problem with the illumination shutting down.

Now Premier has been around for quite awhile and I hear they have good customer service. The other 5-25 I know of was shipped out on a Monday and the owner got it back on Friday the same week. Total of 5 days and now it's perfect. Mine just went out today and I'm sure I'll have it back soon and running perfectly as well.

I think this is just because it's such a new product. Maybe they rushed it to market just a little too soon I don't know. I guess it's a chance you take when you buy something that is the latest brand new thing.

I'm really not worried about it. I believe they'll repair it quickly and I'll have it back in no time. It's such a nice scope I'm still happy I got it and I can't wait to have it on the rifle and running it. I am a little irritated that it happened to me right now because I bought this scope just for ASC. I really can't afford it right now but I got it anyway so I would have the higher magnification which I hoped would help me ranging targets. I have a 4-16 S&B that a bud loaned me and it's fantastic just not as much magnification as I'd like.

I think maybe some folks need not get so emotional about this stuff. Shit breaks it happens. I'll accept it on this first initial run of product. I'm not happy about it but I can deal with it as long as they fix it quickly and solve the problems they're having so this doesn't continue. If those things don't happen then I'll never buy their product again. It's that simple.

I'm going to go ahead and disregard everything from that site.

Now, I have been following the PH religiously since it was first announced, and the Hide has the highest level of PH chatter of any of the sites I know, and I have heard very few complaints. None about the issues Steve claims. I think Glock24 hit the nail on the head with his post about the lever locks possibly being loose. It sounds like that could potentially be MarcS's issue as well (it'd be an easy mistake to make, and an easy mistake to not notice once it was made).

Now, I'll be sure to post it here if mine starts acting up.

Hydro, why would you want to ditch the levers? I can't imagine set screws are any more secure, is the lever really that offensive?

Edit to add: Whoops, Marc posted while I was typing. So are the issues all with the 5-25s? Mine's a 3-15, and most of what I've read and researched has been about the 3-15s.

I hope it was just becaue the levers were not tight enough. I'd not be too proud to say it if that turns out to be the case. I thought I had them damn tight though but I could be wrong. I set them to where they started giving hard resistance before it was straight up. Then it was a hard press to get it to roll all the way over and down flat. Is that what you guys do? I'd be happy as a pig in mud if that's all it was and it was my fault.

After I set them it was working perfectly for another, oh I don't know, 50 rounds maybe?

I love the levers by the way. They may look goofy but I love not needing an allen wrench or any other tool to reset it. Change ammo then record the change and reset no problem it takes a second. Great idea and one of the things I love about the scope.

Mumbles, I am not suggesting they ditch the levers. I am suggesting they offer a traditional, set screw model for those who dont need the QD style.

IMO, the set screws <span style="font-style: italic">are</span> more secure. Almost by definition. I imagine the lever's will prove to be durable, but any time you have something designed to operate in a quick manner, there is a good chance you are making a compromise. The set screws take a bit of fiddling, and a tool to adjust. But once set, they are about as solid as you can be, short of having something permanently fixed.

I think the levers are innovative, and a nice feature, for people who need them. But I dont need them, and while it may not be a huge issue, it is something else to worry about(not so much for a casual shooter, like me, but for someone in harms way).

As far as optics and emotions, I agree. They seem to rile people up about as fast as anything. And if you are introducing a potential negative about something that is currently popular with the "in" crowd, you will get hammered in a heartbeat. And then the band wagoneers that are inherent to web forums take full effect. It is comical really.

I really liked the Premier Heritage I owned in 3-15. I havent used the 5-25 yet, but a friend of mine recently mounted one on his SRS. I hope to shoot with it soon. I have tried most of the higher end scopes and to be honest, would gladly "settle" for any of them. USO, Premier and S&B are all excellent optics. And each has something a little better than the others. It is all personal opinion when comparing the top end stuff. I tried them all and ended up keeping my PMII. It is my favorite of the bunch. To be honest, they are all overkill for my needs. I dont beat on my gear. I could (and have) easily gotten by with my MKIV's (love them, great value despite the recent trend of them being popular to hate). I just like having the best optic I can afford. It is more want than need.

That is the inherent compromise when having such a large range of magnification. On my 5-25 PMII, with P4F reticle, I have not found it to be an issue. But it wouldnt really bother me, because I spend very little time (as in none) below 10X.

On the 3-15 PH I had, I found the reticle to be just about perfect, although I have heard some complain. It seemed just about right on the 3-15.

FWIW-I broke my lever on my 5-25 using thumb pressure. They took it back asap and replaced the levers with beefier ones and sent me another set. I have no issues with them but I would prefer a set screw option and I even suggested it to Jerry. They stand by their product and I am very happy with the scope!

As stated, first rounds may have issues, how they take care of it, is how the company will be looked at in the future.

Marc, it definitely sounds like the levers being loose is not your problem.

Hydro and Rem700, you guys are making a bigger deal over the possibility that someone might blindly defend their scope of choice than anyone actually defending their scope of choice. This thread's been fairly straightforward and analytical as far as I can tell, besides a few posts at the beginning before the drunk posted a link to his source.

There were some hiccups with the 3-15 at first too. This thing with the 5-25 sounds more serious though.

Hydro, I got that you don't want to ditch the levers altogether, that you just want a second option. I just don't see any great advantage of screws over levers. Any advantage in security is going to be marginal at best. Just because it's quick doesn't mean it's weak (LaRue?).

..Of course if your levers are breaking right off, I can see why you'd want something else...

The advantage of the set screws over the levers are being illustrated by this very thread. Peace of mind. One less thing to be concerned with. Have you ever seen a thread where people were discussing potential zeroing issues caused by a set screw coming loose? I am sure it has happened, but their very design makes it far less likely than any "quick" option. The advantage in security is anything but marginal.

The levers have a huge advantage when discussing convenience. But not when discussing set it and forget it reliability. I wish Premier would offer both. The guys who want the ability to make quick, tool-less adjustments love the levers. Guys who dont, at least me and a few others I know, love the Premier Heritage, but would like not to have to worry about the levers coming loose or not being properly set and losing their zero at the wrong time.

+1. These are first-run and bound to have a few issues. That's where the lifetime warranty (and a back-up scope) comes in handy.

Hey guys,

I am the owner of the other Premier 5-25 that went down Marc mentioned.

Marc is the Grim Reaper of scopes. He has broken Leupold (last one took 5-7 seconds), S&B, and USO. LOL. Figures he would have issues with his Premier.

My scope stopped tracking during a match several weeks ago and would not hold zero. This was confirmed with 2 separate rifles (KMW and GAP) and about 50 rounds of ammo.

My elevation turret also engaged even when my lever was in the open/unlocked position. When we would zero the elevation knob the POI would shift.

The scope was at Mike Cecil's shop Monday afternoon and was back at his shop on Friday of the same week. I would like to thank Jerry R. for his time and great customer service. He was great to deal with and listened to all my bitchin.

As far as I know I was one of the very first to get my hands on a 5-25X and sometimes when you are on the cutting edge you bleed.

I had a chance to take the scope out yesterday and run a track test. I wanted to take as much shooter error out as possible so I mounted it on my APA 22 Trainer which stacks em them at 50yards easily if I do my part.

Before I even took the scope out to the range I sat at my desk spinning the shit out of the knobs for the last week or so. Several can confirm because they would hear me do it when on the phone with me. I was not gentle to say the least.

This is what we did for the track test.

Jacob Aka GrandSlam and I hit the range at 0800. It was 70 degrees with 0 wind.

I zeroed the rifle and shot about 25 rounds to confirm I had a solid 50yard zero.

Tracking test is as follows.

1. 3 shots to confirm zero, all good
2. Moved elevation up 1mil, 4 shots, all good
3. Moved up 1 mil (2 total), 3 shots, all good
4. Moved up 1 mil (3 total), 3 shots, all good
5. Moved up 1 mil (4 total), 3 shots, all good
6. Moved up 1 mil (5 total), 3 shots, all good
7. Moved up 1 mil (6 total), 3 shots, all good
8. Moved up 1 mil (7 total), 3 shots, all good
9. Moved up 1 mil (8 total), 4 shots, 3 good, 1 fail
10. Moved up 1 mil (9 total), 3 shots, all good
11. 9 mil elevation, moved 2 mil windage right, 3 shots, all good
12. 9 mil elevation, moved 4 mil windage left, 3 shots, all good
13. moved elevation down 6 mil (3 mil up from zero) and had 2 mil left windage dialed in, 3 shots, all good
14. 3 mil elevation, moved windage 4 mil right (2 right total), 3 shots, all good
15 zeroed scope, moved elevation up 2 mil, and 2 mil right windage, 4 shots, 3 good, 1 flyer
16. Moved elevation down 2 mil (zero elevation) and left 2 mil right windage dialed in, 3 shots, all good

Returned scope to zero on all knobs fired 5 shots into same ragged hole that we made when zeroing.......BAM SHIT GETS DONE!

Looks like my scope is tracking solid and it will be mounted on my GAP 243win and tested out to 1K next weekend. All the impacts tracked with my reticle as well.

3 other Premier 5-25Xs were on the line yesterday and they tracked flawlessly out to 1K.

Shit happens and things break. I personally like mine and have already put my name on the list for a 2nd one with Mike.

my 15x was giving me fits but im sure it was the 22mil knob. just too fine and i was used to the S&B knob lines. new 15mil single turn solved all of my problems.

Sometimes, its not the problem that is the "problem". It is how it is handled. Buy quality gear from quality people and you should never have a real problem.
