Kicking Ass Somewhere
Looked below and didnt see any feedback. I dont normally spend money on Hollywood but this one looked good, plus me and OL are home alone with no kids, she mentioned it would be good to see a movie so I want to pre empt any ideas she might have. Will ride the Harley to see it if its any good.

It was good, but haven't read the most recent Clancy books. Just one nit to pick, when he was swearing into the service they had him swearing to protect and defend the United States from all enemies foreign and domestic, not the Constitution. I may have misheard or missed it but I swear they omitted the word Constitution. Good movie overall though.

If one of you all go see it please let me know if I missed it or if they deleted it from the Oath, thanks.

edit Never mind, confirmed below it was there, my old ears need a tune up.

[h=3]The Follies of 'Jack Ryan': Another Hollywood Thriller About Christian Terrorists in New York City[/h]

By Jim Hoft, The Gateway Pundit
Once upon a time US political leaders could at least identify the enemies of the United States. And, once upon a time, Hollywood could make movies about the enemies of the United States and the free world.
But those days are gone. Today US political leaders believe there are no enemies, no war – just “overseas contingency operations” and “man-caused disasters.”
And, Hollywood is just as delusional. The California cowards are afraid to link Islam and terror and afraid to portray the horrors of fanatical Islamists who declared war on America over a decade ago.
Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit is latest example of Hollywood cowardice.
The movie starts out with scenes from a London campus on 9-11-2001. Yet, Hollywood chose not to show the actual towers crumbling to the ground. That would be too offensive – to Muslims. Instead any actual footage of the attack were left to the imagination.
Then, as the movie develops you discover the enemies who are set on blowing up New York City are Christians from Russia who get their orders from the local Orthodox priest in Deerborn, Michigan. Got that?
Anyway – Jack Ryan is able to stop the young church-going Christian before he was able to blow up Wall Street. Jack Ryan saves the day. Thank you, Jack Ryan. The US is once again safe from the dreaded Christian terrorists.

This article is bullshit, I saw the movie....the enemy Was Russians who wanted to crash the value of the dollar because the U.S wouldn't back an oil pipeline in Turkey......oh yeah, and they happened to be Christian. So what?

As for the movie, over all I thought it was good, lots of action and deffinately worth a watch.

I agree with the comments comparing him to the Clark character - makes far more sense. I suspect it's because people know the Jack Ryan character better than Clark, even though he has an entire novel dedicated to him. It's frustrating when they do this kind of stuff because ultimately the only thing the character has in common with any of written material is the name.

I think that article was just trying to confirm the author's bias. I agree with some of his general points but the Russians just happened to be using the Orthodox Church as a cover/meeting place. They were not motivated by their faith, the plot was because the Russians were mad America won the cold war basically.

Overall I wish they would have made a movie on John Clark, he is cooler than Ryan IMHO. A movie based on "Without Remorse" could be excellent.

As for this one, meh, it was not much better than any other average action movie lately. Good to see Kevin Costner though, he was pretty good. Sniped a guy too with a suppressed, stubby rifle.

The terrorists were Christian? As in, acting solely by their faith?

Haven't seen the flick but that's not what the reviews of the film I've read say.

Just watched it today after reading your post and it was in there...

I enjoyed it as did my daughter and I didn’t feel it had an anti-Christian message. Anyone get a good look at the rifle being used in the overwatch scene? Looked like the square forarm of an AI. I read all your posts about this being a John Clark role but they did explain the operational status well enough for me, and I do believe the Jack Ryan role in the books (I have them all) said that he had a wall street back ground... IIRC, it was a slot his father-in-law got him. So a little deviation there but I can live with that.

On the novels, the one I have always thought would make a great movie would be Red Storm Rising... I may be dating myself but I always enjoyed cold war movies... you know where good, bad and evil still exists without the blurred lines of today. The air, land and sea battle scenes could be epic.

Clancy's best work IMO, and my favorite novel.

Without remorse adapted to the present would be great. A drug pipeling from A-stan, a shot up bullfrog, a man on a mission.....

I do love this book

Yeah, this really would be a good time to do that movie, considering the war-winding-down era we're in, and the number of returning veterans we have with combat experience. Drugs, human trafficking/sex slavery, and gang violence are still very relevant issues. The POW subplot could even be worked in, perhaps as civilian hostages being held by a terrorist group. Or they could just make it a period piece and leave it in the '70s. Like a violent American Hustle ;)

Without Remorse is definitely my favorite Clancy novel.

I was let down.... Just lacked the story and characters from the first two. Thought Hunt for Red October, Clear and Present Danger had more meat on the bones, story and acting. The story line could have been great but seems like Jack Ryan was a better Captain Kirk than a CIA guy.
