Suppressors Anyone still use a legacy 212 SF can over a newer SOCOM? If so how does it compare?

I have a 212 in jail because the refurbs were going for a great price and it would fit perfectly with my 416...

Does anybody still have an older legacy 212 suppressor and if so how does it compare with the newer SOCOM cans? Blowback, impact shift, mounting of the can onto the device, flash hider mount, etc. The refurbs being sold have the Gen2 collar....

Would be interested to hear some feedback. Either way I'm glad I bought it for my 416 but i'd be very interested to hear how they compare to newer generation Surefire suppressors

The 212 is a work horse. Logged lots and lots of rounds on it, and it keep son giving. Sound on a 10.5" 5.56 di rifle has been superb. It ran great on a 16" 5.56 piston rifle as well, and as you can imagine, quieter yet. The locking collar of the Gen1 hasn't given me any issues, and neither have the newer Gen2 Socom collars. The flash hider works, but I hardly ever shoot without a can so can't say much beyond how it mounts. The MB works great too, and it's ultra loud on a 10.5" gun. Blowback is there, but any tunable gas block fixes that. The Socom has less blowback, but in my opinion it's also louder.

My 212 is a 2010 can, so it's had a decent life thus far, but I'd imagine it will keep banging for many years to come.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy another fist full of them, especially at the price point they're selling at.

I wish I would have kept a log. If estimating, I'd say under 6k rounds. Can't say for sure.

I’m using a Surefire SOCOM II 7.62 RC2 suppressor on a 308 w/ no issues. It’s been accurate & the results have been repeatable. I shot Friday night to zero my gun & confirm data from 300 - 700 w/ first round hits & a follow up to confirm. We had to make some corrections & true data at 800, but that was predictable. When I moved to 900 & 1000 I went 2/2 at each yard line. At 1K there are a pair of 16” gongs & I hit each on the waterline. I held .9 left on the first round & 1 MIL on the second. In the first pic w/ the hand you can see where the impact landed & on the second it was slightly to the left.

I bought this a “do-it-all” type can & so far it’s done all I’ve asked of it & more. On a 5.56 gun I get a super tight zero & it’s repeatable. The suppressor is easy on the ears w/ just one set of ear pro. I’m using a Radian Raptor charging handle & I've never had any issues w/ gas / blowback. I’ve never used a factory charging handle w/ the RC2.

W/ out the can & using a brake it’s very loud. People talk shit shit about degrading accuracy while using the Surefire QD mount, but in my experience it’s been very accurate & repeatable.

I’ve shot the old Surefire 212 can some & I've got no issues w/ it. The little that I’ve shot it has been on a 12.5” SBR & it works great. Maybe just a hint of blowback but that’s it.

I would just not shoot a 416 with a can because of all the freaking blow back and not being able to see of breath lol Unless you got a vented or adjustable gas block..

The 212 was designed for a 416 with non-vented GB so i'll have to see when it clears how bad it is. I expect it to be pretty bad

I have two of the old 212s and an old mini. All with the new collars but not SOCOM guts.

All 3 just keep plugging along with each seeing about 2-3K rounds a year.

The 212s get a little full auto now and again.

They are solid hard use cans that I dont mind getting hot.
