Considering a scout type arrangement. I recently took my monocular and had a look (just by holding the monocular in hand) through a 1.5-4.5x day optic with a longer than normal eye relief (about 7" at 1.5x). Here's what I noticed.

The view through the day optic was a little darker but the cross hair was easy to pick up. The area around the day scope was normal NV. So I'm wondering if dropping down to 1x would make this arrangement nearly seamless. Has anyone tried it?

I don't quite understand the question and it feels like I'm missing your main question though I'll try to answer.

You can look through any mounted optics with a mounted NV scope as long as they line up and you will lose brightness. It works pretty well though. The main drawback is that it means your shooting position needs to be further back to allow for the NV monocular though some people use a 1x dayscope with an optical zoom behind it during the day and a NV scope ( With zoom? ) behind at night.

And you can use either a dedicated NV compatible daysight or you can NV modify some cheaper reflex sights to do the same.

Hope this helps - let me know if I misunderstood the question.
