I would contact them and ask. I can’t answer that question for them.
Norcal -club match is fast, smaller targets but generally closer range.
Tahema - is almost the same format but bigger targets and longer ranges. It is a very nice setup
Avenal- is probably the easiest entry into a club series - the mach has all props and reduced time or all the time in the world all prone. Next Match this Sunday
Slo- is brand new - first match is this Saturday
Absolutely- PM me and we can exchange numbers, usually we can help spin someone up too..
Yes watching can be a good way to talk to shooters and ask questions. See the kind of equipment used, etc... I run the Avenal Long Range Tactical match and it is a great match to get started....Has a prone division or Obstacle (PRS/NRL Style).
I probably met you yesterday. I'm the newb who had to swap out his scope rings on sight in 15 mins before the match because I couldn't get to zero. Never did quite get it dailed in. Glorious day none the less. I look forward to the next one. I do have a buddy who is intrested and would like to tag along next time if that's ok. He doesn't have a bolt gun yet.

Hey nice meeting you yesterday! I have to hand it to you, you showed up 25 minutes before the briefing, tried to zero, then needed to swap a second set of rings and rezero, had 1 chronograph reading and had to use an offset to create your dope cards. Regroup, pack up and hike out..
1. I have never seen anyone get so much done so fast.
2. I have never seen anyone keep their head together and still go on to shooting a match and NOT quit along the way.

We had phenomenal weather and once again @Swoodhouse19 put on a match that was well organized and had a prone division with TONS of time for those either less experienced or looking for a soft entry into the match type shooting and a fair and super well laid out positional COF with a faster cadence.
Had a few new guys from the Hide as well as new shooters to the match. In the squad I was lucky enough to shoot with, every guy but me, on the right, had/has the kinda jobs that people make movies about... Some real, real bad-assery/man card stuff in the squad. Great shooting with these guys and a fun time poking fun at each other. All that said we had another new female shooter in the match help balance out some of the testosterone..
Really, If you're new and want to shoot long range it worth the drive to try one of these matches.. You might just surprise yourself how well you do and how supportive the guys are.
I tagged the match director maybe he can post a few pictures..

Well, I'm shooting the Washoe match next weekend.. assuming it doesn't get stormed out again. It is a drive maybe 6 hours??
It is off highway 5 near Harris Ranch
I will be at the NorNev match this weekend, if that is the one your referring to.
i doubt we are going to shoot this weekend especially if we have rain the next 3 days like they are calling for...someone was out at the range last weekend and jimmy would not let them go to the target shed.
Thanks for the heads up! This the same is for the NRL22? I sent emails to both MDs just yesterday, but have not heard back.
If it is canceled again, I guess I'll reload. I made a beer induced mistake last time and ran the wrong neck bushing. I loaded a shit ton of rounds super quickly and never noticed until I started shooting. I already shot several matches with it and have maybe enough left for maybe 2 club level and one 2 day matches.. Works ok on sub 1k targets but I skipped a stage on a match that had all the targets between 1100 and 1400ish. Truth be told, I was mashing the trigger and shooing like shit already so it was an easy decision. But my ES is about 100fps...
I running 123s with miles of jump and the super light neck tension is making for inconsistent burn. I think if I was jamming or had short jump, it might not be an issue.
47guy & Rangemaster, is there an easier way to get on a list or something, rather than try to follow and chase the details. You guys have several webpages, some I think are defunct. Some clubs do Facebook, we just started but I find the issue is the messages get pushed down and are hard to look up if your not watching Facebook all the time.

the MD for the NRL22 is the one i was talking about that jimmy(the range master)would not let go over to the target shed...i guess its pretty wet and sloppy out there so i doubt its going to dry up in time....i will talk to the MDs tomorrow and find if its on or not.
as far as face book goes maybe rangemaster can like i dont do face book....never even been on it...you can always call me too if you still have my number if not ill PM you.
We run NRL22 matches quarterly in Avenal. I'll post up the next time. Simpl10 great meeting you...get a hold of me and I can take you out there on an off weekend to shoot your gun.

You did really well, given what you were dealing with. I, too, was impressed at how quickly you changed out the scope rings.
Also, @Diver160651 deserves some serious props. For those reading along, here’s what happened: @2aBaCa showed up and needed to zero his new rifle (first bolt). @Diver160651 helped him, but when @Swoodhouse19 told them they had to stop because it was time for us to get started, there was still an offset between POA/POI. @Diver160651 the gets out his phone and works out the DOPE for the determined offset for every target in the match booklet.
I ended up shooting with @2aBaCa, and he did damned well given that situation and it was his first match!
This is the kind of treatment new shooters can expect at the Avenal match. @Swoodhouse19 is a stand-up dude and runs a great match. @Diver160651 pitches in to support new shooters, and there are a bunch of other great guys who will help anyone there.

I second those comments about Swoodhouse19 and @Diver160651. Just picked up a 6.5 700 PSR. I learned a lot from these two in 5 hours of impromptu lessons, enough to jump in and start my first build and next time bring a rifle with me. I could not be more in debt
or in their debt for the wisdom and rapt attention when I asked a new guy question, they never made me feel small or stupid for asking anything. Big shout out to all of you that shot at Avenal, you guys are pro's and ambassadors to the precision shooting discipline
I'll second Avenal match put on by @Swoodhouse19 is a great event for beginners. This past weekend was only my second match and could not feel more welcomed by all involved. I ended up in the group with @christopher.dow and @2aBaCa both great guys to shoot with! @2aBaCa I didn't realize that was you sighting in that morning but you made HUGE gains by there end of the day. (I believe clearing 5 of 6 targets on last stage) I can't wait to get back down there! Next time I''ll have to make sure @benbangui makes it

Shooting the matches at Avenal has allowed me shoot with many newer to matches, all stand up guys like Simple10, @benbangui, @2aBaCa, HonkyTonk86, seansmd, @Lonestar1027, Stpilot12, @christopher.dow, @viva la figa, @techdiver, @spenga, just to name a few Hide guys, as well a bunch of great people from the Real Bad Asses, Sponsored Shooters, PRS Pros, to Mom's and kids, it is all the gift to me. OK ya, there is a true ass every once in a while, but in general, salt of the earth people.
For those that might stumble across this thread:
Each Match seems to have it's own "personality" and I think there are a reflection of the Match Director's goals and rifle club. Some are all business and a bit overwhelming for the new shooter, some you'll get real grief for coaching, some coaching is encouraged and some so friendly, you be joking with each other, maybe laughing at yourself. Avenal is like the latter two, but don't get me wrong, while I mentioned joking, safety is NOT something our MD jokes about, rather safety IS part of the coaching and learning that will take place. You'll be coached and learn when to pull the bolt back, mag out, chamber check etc..
This match is VERY unique; not only because it is a hiking course between 2-4 miles depending on your draw, the fact that you get to shoot across several canyons, a diverse AOF, but because it is combined with TWO matches happening at the same time. We have the entry level match called the Prone Division where the shooters get almost 2x the time as positional shooters and a Open Positional Division. Scott is trying to figure out a way to get some of the guys who are camping for years in the prone division, to challenge themselves, maybe give them a bit less time, so first timers get a bit realistic idea of how well they really are shooting.
Prone Match: (This is our entry level division)
The targets are VERY generous for prone shooter. It is fashioned after the Whittington Center in New Mexico, where the COF never changes. It is ideal, for hunters people wanting to shoot a variety of distances and AOF and see what they can do with 1 shoot per target, people looking to vet their range dope, practicing wind holds and of course great for your first several matches.
You can shoot it slowly or challenge yourself. This works because prone "is the most stable" position. You can practice using only your tripod or shooting sticks, use your tripod in combination with obstacles, practice on all or just a few obstacles while still using the longer prone time limits. You can shoot your standard hunting gun off a backpack or your race gun.. The key is that you must submit your score as a prone shooter. Really you can do so much, learn so much.. You'll often shoot next to the people on Obstacles so you'll get to see how they build their positions. I think this is the only match that allows such a diverse approach to shooting styles. Consider this a chance to just to shoot long range more than a "match".
Open Division: (You can absolutely shoot the Open division as your first match.. it is supportive and friendly too!!!!)

Yes, every once in a while someone pulls a fast one because we use "Squad Mom's", but Scott is working on that..
In May, Scott has roughly 17 positional stages with over 100 shots lined up and will be shot much more like a true PRS/NRL.. Again, the Open Division is NOT be the same every month and this particular style might not be repeated for some time.. Get your name on the Calendar for May's 19th Open division SPACE WILL BE VERY LIMITED -

the NORNEV match here in reno may still be on we wont know anything until some time today when we get an answer from the range master....Fn stupid someone cant make a decision until the day before the match!
