If anyone has cracked the code on how get AB (android) to reliably pull atmo info from the K5700 AB Elite, fill me in.

I have completed the hop on one foot, point at moon, change batteries, hard reset, firmware update routine...to no avail.

Thanks.

Mobile Device=MotoZ2
Android OS=8.0.0
Kestrel Link Ballistics=Build 123
Applied Ballistics Version=2.1.2
Kestrel 5700AB Elite w/Link=FW 1.18 Boot 1.01

P.S. I've done a fairly thorough study of the references listed below....but if there's a nugget I missed, I'm all ears.

That's a strange one, I thought that was the whole Idea of the 5700 Elite, but maybe if you are using the APP you have to set the Kestrel to weather only setting and not have it set to the AB mode,

The reason I say this is because with the ConX and Elite combo you can't use the App and the Kestrel at the same time you either use the Conx App or the Kestrel because both units only allow connectivity to one Unit at a time, So that is why if you are using the AB App then set the Elite to Weather Mode,

hope that helps,

John.

John I gave that a go...that didn't quite check the box for me as of yet. No reference to that in page 18/19 in the link below. But I gave it whirl anyways, thank you for the suggestion.

Ya welcome mate,

I know that is the case with the ConX using the same Kestrel, the reason being is to stop near by users of the same gear getting all messed up, I you are using the App then the Elite has to be set to Weather and if you are using the ConX with the Elite then is wont work with the App, If you go in to the Kestrels settings you will see that it will only let you pick one of its paired Items and the moment you select another the other is disconnected.

So if I want to use the Elite with Strelok then I have to set it to Weather and not AB mode and if I want to set it to the ConX it won't talk to Strelok, silly I know because you can't cross check the out put data without swapping from one item or the other.

hope that helps.

Ok it's working...just like during load development...I'll see if i can put 5 in the same hole tomorrow and call this the Answer :)

1. Ensure all other BT devices are turned off in surrounding area.

2. Brand spanking new LITHIUM AA in the K5700. I had put a new alkaline in, but on power up it would say 3% ? Repeated with a new alkaline out of the wrapper, same result? I put a full charged Eneloop in there..it would say 38%? OK, fine ...you win, new Lithium it says 98% when powered on.

3. Reboot phone.

4. Open up and get the Kestrel Link Ballistics app connected.....when you power up the app, you should see a flash message saying connecting to Elite 123456, and then the Updated Kestrel Latitude menu should appear. If it hasn't you need to go through the Kestrel Link connection steps to select your Kestrel. If you get stuck here, ensure all other BT devices that may be causing conflict, are turned off (iPads, other mobile devices, etc), and all other apps that may be trying to connect to the K5700 are closed out and not running in the background. My response after discovering another BT gem that was still on, was another reboot of the phone.

5. Power up AB. Under the Environment screen->upper right->Acquire Atmosphere->Kestrel. If you don't see Kestrel here, go back to step 4 and get it connected via Kestrel Link Ballistics.

6. Acquire the Target Heading

7. Tap Single Shot

8. Under the HUD screen->upper right->Start Kestrel Atmosphere. If you don't see Kestrel here, go back to step 4 and get it connected via Kestrel Link Ballistics.

It's working for me this way. Not certain this is the prescrided NK/AB method or steps for a Droid 8.0.0 and a AB K5700E to communicate atmo to the AB app.

BTW...4DOF will pull data from the K5700E too....just need to ensure the K5700E is connected to Kestrel Link Ballistics first. And with mine it doesn't seem to matter if its in Ballistics, Weather, or Easy mode...it worked regardless.

And if this elementary stuff widely known, then great! I'm caught up with everyone else on now, maybe it'll help catch someone else up on it too.

So does that mean that you can run the kestrel App and the AB app at the same time,

And is either of the Apps running at the same time as the AB mode in the Kestrel ?

thanks,

John.

John-

AB app ran with Atmo feed from K5700 regardless if K5700 was in Easy, Weather, or Ballistic mode.

Connectivity within the Kestrel Ballistics Link app needed to be established so that Atmo can feed AB, 4DOF, or Shooter, so yes that App had to be open and have an active connection.

I'm about ready to give up using my Kestrel to update the atmosphere on my tablet and just use the Kestrel alone. I get it to sync up and work ok, but I don't have complete confidence that all the settings, options, zero info, truing, etc work the same of each device. I wanted to use the tablet due to its larger form and easier, more direct, data entry. But I'm feeling (maybe not correctly) that I'll get better output just using the Kestrel alone.

I mainly started this thread because what is marketed or advertised in terms of capabilities is quite different from what is seen in the field given the variety of users, environments, platforms, OSs, firmwares, etc and utilization techniques.

I agree with you that the same old adage about beware of the man with one rifle....comes into play here.

Have to find your system, calibrate it to you and your rifle, and then get good at using it.
