So I'm about to order a a good amount of $ on somer parts on a AR in 7.62x51, wanted to make sure EVERYTHING would be setup when i go on my midtour to build and shoot. I would like it to be a 1000 yd rifle with ambi control as my father/brother are left handed. As for the 5.56 i just wanted it to be reliable as possible though not sure if going to make it a SBR or Long BBL. Both are pretty similiar setups and both will be running supressed, 7.62 will be using a US Optics SN-3 and 5.56 will have SN-4

7.62-
JD Machine "SH" stripped lower and upper
Magpul PRS stock
Slash's Heavy Buffer w/ armalite AR10 buffer spring
Norgon Ambi-Catch mag release
"Bad Ass" selector switch
Geissele DMR trigger
DPMS lower reciever parts kit
DPMS Bolt assembly in chrome
Daniel Defense Lite Rail
Kreiger or Bartlein barrels, 20"
Troy low-pro gas block
Badger Ord charging handle

5.56-
JD Machine "SH" stripped lower and upper
Magpul UBR stock
Slash's Heavy Buffer w/ armalite AR15 buffer spring
Norgon Ambi-Catch mag release
"Bad Ass" selector switch
Geissele Hi-speed trigger or SSA-E if SBR
Daniel Defense reciever parts kit
LMT Bolt carrier group
Daniel Defense Lite Rail
Kreiger or Bartlein barrels, 12" if i can get it legal if not 16, or 18" if going long.
Troy low-pro gas block
Badger Ord charging handle

Any recommendations on finishing touches or improving reliability/accuracy would be helpful. These are both my first self-built rifles and would like to do them right and not cut corners.

Re: AR 5.56 and 7.62 builds

For the 5.56 build, I would suggest changing the LPK to a better quality one like a Daniel Defense one. The .308 should be fine as DPMS tends to have better QC with the .308s than the smaller counterpart. The Hi-Speed triggers are great for bench or prone shooting but I'm a fan of the SSA and SSA-E for run 'n gun applications. No adjustment screws to knock loose or back out. Would also suggest a MPI/HPT bolt assembly which I don't think the DPMS ones are.

Re: AR 5.56 and 7.62 builds

You might be pushing it to reach 1,000 yds with 20" for .308. Bolt guns may be able to but not sure about gas guns. I remember 22" M1A's were questionalbe about going sub-sonic at 1,000.

Re: AR 5.56 and 7.62 builds

Sorry for a being a little bit misleading, but it just needs to be suppresor capable, for long range I'll be going unsupressed. MidwestPX thanks for the suggestions I'll be checking those out and see if i can improve the 5.56 and change them as I find better parts.

You can reach 1k with a .308 gas gun WITH the proper ammo and shooter (168gr SMKs won't cut it...at least not without being sideways as they enter the target...they get squirrely after around 750yds or so). I can get to 1k with my P-308 20" running 175gr SMKs and 155gr Scenars.

Re: AR 5.56 and 7.62 builds

the 1000 yard problem is easily solved by purchasing the atrag pda from horusvision. build your gun in it, put in your barometrics and true the muzzle velocity prior to subsonic, that will give you an accurate range card for 100-subsonic range, then shoot a target out into the sub sonic range of your gun, this time extrapolate the BC save it in your pda and after that you are only limited to how far you can see splash and call winds.
We do it everytime we shoot at Accuracy First down in the Texas panhandle. Then we shoot a mile with our 7.62x51s
do it once and it's no longer impossible
