I'm curious if anyone has taken their 9mm Suppressed/sub sonic ammo and had any real world experience with it killing anything while hunting? did it do a good job? only reason I'm asking is I've used a .300 blackout and I wasn't very impressed on how ineffective it was on game. Miss me with that "shot placement" bull. no, it's not going to be my go to hunting round but I'm curious if anyone has used it on small-mid size game? thanks.

that was my fear, just didn't know if anyone had better experience with one vice the .300. the .300 unsuppressed wasn't a bad deal but sub Sonic's suppressed was a joke.
You're going from a ~190 grain bullet in the Blackout to a ~150 grain bullet in the 9mm. If you weren't happy before, you're going to be exceptionally unhappy now. Add in most AR-9's are straight blow back operating systems you really lose a lot of performance.
To be honest I doubt you will find much in the way of subsonics to be happy with if you were dissatisfied with the Blackout. If you didn't try the Hornady Sub-X give those a go as they are about the best factory load I have found. Honestly though, with the speed of sound limiting you, unless you step up to a 375 or 458 class bullet you're simply not going to add much more mass to the equation.
yeah, In my mind this was what I was thinking too, just didn't know if the 9mm produced more speed at Sub velocities but I also will admit I didn't look. I haven't tried those yet, honestly don't think they were available when I had my .300blk. they look interesting.
What game are you intending to shoot with suppressed 9mm and at what distances. Sub-sonic is lower velocity because it is travelling below the speed of sound.
IMHO .45 is the ultimate suppressed pistol cartridge. Not much range in a carbine, but they’re quiet and they smack. 9mm subs are anemic.
Completely agree re. the .45 as the better/best suppressed handgun round.
Subs for hunting? Run 150 grain supers in your 300 BO and you have near 30-30 ballistics.

120gn Barnes for supers. They make a 110gn as well that is way more popular but when given the choice I'll take the heavier bullet. Took a really nice 10 point last year at 90 yards. Will use again no complaints, dead in 20 yards.

Just not a fan on how the Sub X expands compared to the all copper round of the Lehigh's. The cost of the Sub X is waaay more appealing though.
If I was going to do anything in pistol caliber, I would look at 45 or maybe 10mm if you can find a round that is sub sonic that you like or load your own.

I only use .22LR when going after polar bears. I get close enough to them to shoot them in the eye. Suppressed, of course.
Haven’t done much quiet neighborhood hunting since the late 80s. But when I do, I use subsonic 9s.
How much is a panda tag in your state? And, can you hunt over bait? Do you use bamboo, or General Tso’s Chicken?
i'd like to see your results whenever you get finished testing them. i'm not against a .300blk I just know when I ran subs, (220gr) suppressed I shot an armadillo at roughly 80 yards and it ricocheted right off of it...twice. I had no confidence in that round anymore. I ended up running 125 sst's suppressed after that. I still didn't feel comfortable shooting pigs with it and that could be just not having the correct round for the job. I know how though they are.
the .45 sounds like a sweet deal and suppressed would be cool. not really neighborhood hunting on the regular but if a yote wonders in the yard I rather the sound be unheard..

The only way to get more power AND remain subsonic is to increase the weight of the projectile.

Well, a 180gr proprietary 9mm is at the bottom most end of normal .45ACP projectiles. 200s and 230s are typical, and I've seen 250s and 265s in the reloading store. You start running out of room about that point. They're more effective, but they're still just pistol rounds.
Most of the 300BLK sub ammo I see has a 200gr pill, so really a .45 carbine would be more effective than even the BLK.
The real advantage is not in in trying to heave the biggest sub possible, but rather that the vast majority of off-the-shelf .45ACP ammo is already subsonic.
The 50BEO and the 458SOCOM just take the same concept to it's ad absurdum. More expensive brass, and a much more expensive suppressor. They're throwing 500gr+ bullets sub sonic without even pushing it. Probably can be pushed much heavier. These were designed to be the hardest hitting sub guns ever...and they are.
I almost traded for a 458 with a guy here last year. I probably should have done it. What stopped me was having to buy a suppressor for it.

I'm just doing accuracy testing and shooting some water jugs. Don't have money to waste on gel. But if there is anything you want to see in particular I'll see what I can do. It will be out of a 12.5" Proof Research carbon fiber barrel with a Dead Air Sandman Ti for the can. Shooting will be done at 50 yards.

It ended up being substantially louder than my 9mm 147gr subs, same barrel length. Recoil was more, surprisingly more, than the 9.
Never killed anything with either except ground squirrels. For the varmints/pests we have here in Idaho the 147 9's are good enough.
When you start looking at the ballistics of all your options, I don't think you'll find anything that will merry your expectations. The 300 BO wil cone the closest mostly because of the BC of the bullets and availability of true hunting bullets.
So out if the 3: 9,45 or 300blk which one would you go with it? I know none of these will blow a shoulder to pieces at 200 yards. I just want something that will take out a Fox,coon, rabbit, armadillos, etc. all while not disturbing the neighbors

I didn't say they "bounced off" I said they ricocheted off, he never skipped a beat. and yes, that's the God's honest truth.
I was saying that as I know none of the 3 rounds mentioned would do such at that distance, I didn't want a gun with sling slot ballistics. I've got an AR-9 now but still waiting on my Can. if it was worth the money/efforts to acquire a .45 can and AR then that was going to be my next project.

Some dillos are fairly tough. I have seen dozens of them jump straight up and run 5-100 feet then die with good hits. I am often amazed at the blood trails they leave. I have also seen hundreds die immediately with similar hits.

it's not an apartment complex. it's a fairly spread out neighborhood (2-2.5 acre lots outside city limits also surround by woods) so legally as long as I'm 100 feet from a house, I can shoot whatever. I just don't want one of the PETA supporting old ladies to be outside feeding her cat and hear me snatching lives a few houses down. I'm not 8, I'm aware of what's beyond my target.
I also had 10.5" 300 BO that I never shot and once I got over the giggly part of how quiet the 210gr subs were I realized I didn't have a use for it and traded it off.
If I were wanting to kill small varmints quietly with a gas gun inside 100 yds, it would be with a 300 BO.
At the end of the day, the ability to shoot the 300 BO ammo from 110gr supers to 167-210gr suppressed subs in a hunting bullet that cycles the AR reliably is tough to beat.
Somebody was working on a subsonic that shot .338 300gr bullets in an AR type platform or bolt gun.
