I am not an inexperienced reloader - but I'm not an expert either.

Also, I fully understand that a sub sonic .223 is virtually worthless for any sort of penetration or damage. This is not my intent. I'm simply wanting to research play and try to develop a sub sonic .223 round with this specific powder.

That being said, my weapons platform that I want to do these tests on is as follows;

AR-15
16" barrel
Mid-length gas system
1:8 twist

I would like to use the following for my subsonic round:

75gr JHP-BT
Case trim length - 1.743
Primer - CCI 400
OAL - 2.25

I'm not expecting to develop a "cycling" round, but I would like to get to the generally subsonic level of 1,100 fps or slightly less.

Is this even possible with AR-COMP?

I load a 69 gr. SMK over Trailboss and it runs 1040 - 1050 fps. Trailboss is real "fluffy" and fills the case nicely. Agreed that the 5.56 subs are only a tad bit more potent that .22 LR. but the fun factor is there when shooting suppressed.

Yep. That's why I'm using a 75gr for my projectile.
I've made subsonic rounds before with trailboss and even managed to get one recipe to cycle the AR (with a suppressor) but I'm very curious on this AR-COMP powder.
I've got a chrony and I can "work down" a load, but I'm hoping someone has information on the AR-COMP so I can know if it's possible before I attempt the work down.

i dont think i would try ar-comp for that, not sure if that small of a charge(to go 1100 fps) would even get the bullet out the
barrel?(or possible worse)
powders do strange things when used in a way there not intend to.there are minimum charge rates for a reason.
for example win 296 pistol powder in every manual i have seen they state in bold letters do not reduce more then 10%,
my understanding is it acts more like a explosion then a controlled burn.
be very cautious!

I made a subsonic load with 4895 and 55 gr sp when i first got my silencer. its cool but it doesnt cycle the action and its not worth all that loading to plink with, get a 22 conversion for $150 and shoot cci standard vel 22 its a blast.
