I have three ARs, two .223 and a 300 BlkOut, and thinking about a 6.8 SPC II build. I had considered an AR10 buiold, but didn't ant to spring for the utyay of different tools needed and the mix and match thing for AR10 parts. Question is:

What is a reasonable inventory of AR15 parts to keep on hand?

Is there going to be a difference between an AR chambered in .223 and in 6.8 PC besides the different bolt?

2 - 5 each of everything.

I keep several springs and detents on hand just because they are easy to lose during assembly. If you're talking about spare parts in case something breaks, then it just depends. I always keep a spare firing pin, trigger, hammer, and springs.

For the 5.56's and .300BK... the 6.8 will need a different extractor.

Linked Kit has all those "magical disappearing" parts ( the ones I have dropped or launched across the room , never to be found again ) and other practical wear parts..

( Please, Don't buy all the kits... I am waiting for a BF sale. )

And good quality BCG's are inexpensive now a days. I'd buy a spare for the 5.56 and 300BK... and a spare bolt for the 6.8

Been waiting for cryptic coatings black Friday sale to start mine.

Things I would keep on hand.

Two sets of gas rings.
Firing pin or two.
Ejector/Spring
Extractor/Spring/O Ring
Bolt
Maybe a carrier. If possible just a whole new BCG. NOT to be pilfered!
Favorite buffer spring and maybe tube.
Retaining pin and spring.
Other pins and springs, like for the safety and take down pins.

Other nice but not critical items are.

Trigger
Safety
Take down pins.
Trigger pins.
Buffer

All I have so far is a V7 buffer tube and Triggertech trigger. I'll go to V7 for just about everything that is not BCG related and Sprinco for the buffer spring. Cryptic Coatings for BCG stuff.

The trouble is knowing you have half a rifle sitting in a plastic box...
