I just picked up a Tactical Solutions M4 22 upper. My plan is to set it up to match my everyday rifle. I currently run an 11.5" SBR. I am wanting to cut down my 22 barrel to 7.5" (leaving 6.5" in front of the upper receiver). Then I am going to thread on my suppressor to make it about 11" total to match up with my SBR.

My question is should I find someone that can cut down my current barrel (which I believe is steel lined aluminum) or is there someone that sales custom barrels for my TacSol upper and I can just get a new barrel.

I am not looking at going super short, like the 4.5", as keeping the rounds sub sonic is not a high priority. And I have a 9.5" handguard that I am planning on running so that it matches my SBR.

I contacted TacSol and they won't cut my barrel down or make me a new one in the length I want.

Any input or contact info would be great!

Although this may not be your primary concern now, I would highly reccomend going with the 4.5" barrel so that most 22LR bulk pack ammo stays subsonic. I made the mistake with my 22LR SBR of going with a 6.5" barrel. Once that Form 1 is approved, you can't shorten the existing barrel. Once you start running stuff suppressed with subs, the sonic crack of rounds going super sonic becomes highly annoying. :)

I checked out the Better Barrels. They offer a 4.75", bunsen27 would that keep the rounds subsonic?

I am not to up to speed on the AR22's yet, but I saw that my Tac Sol has some sort of collar around the chamber of the factory barrel. Does anyone know if that collar would fit onto a Better Barrel?

I will be pondering my rifle set up and looking on whether or not the shorter barrel will work for what I want.

Thanks for your guys help!

4.75" might work for most bulk pack. I run my Sparrow on a Walther P22 Target which has a 5" barrel and about 30% of Federal bulk pack (1260fps) will go super sonic. I'll be shooting along: pff-pff-pff-CRACK-pff-CRACK. Now my Ruger 22/45 with a 4" barrel 100% of bulk pack stays subsonic. Remember though that I'm barely 300ft above sea level and you're likely in excess of 4000ft above sea level. Different density alltitudes, so slightly different fps (~15fps) for transonic barrier. I think yours would be lower as your DA is higher (thinner air less resistance) so I'd error on the shorter barrel length.
