Precision Rifle Gear Arcteryx is dead to me

it is an interesting strategy to buy a well known brand, then leverage that brand recognition. I think about GNC ( the vitamin company, bought by Harbin -a Chinese govt. owned entity in June 2020 ) - I am definitely watching where the supplements I take come from. It is not always easy to find out where they are made...

I know GoRuck has both a US line and an imported line. I prefer to support companies that produce stuff in the US as much as possible. Love my Kifaru pack and it will probably last as long as I will need it.

And yet you still have a computer and cell phone and tv..... probably drive a honda.... if the product stays the same quality why compromise? Its not like you can get away with buying made in USA only. Although made in the US companies get my buisness when i can, ive given up on thinking i can get that out of my life altogether. We live in a world where made in and assembled in are interchangeable, whats the point of the added stress in my opinion.

i get that and it’s not so much the made in China thing (but I will always try made in USA first) it’s that the company just took the 10 billion and cut bait. If they were struggling or something and got bought out I’d be less upset but they just took the easy money. They make phenomenal products and the LEAF stuff is awesome. One can only hope the quality remains but I don’t think it will. Very few things with made in China on it are quality products.

Owned in china and made in china are two different things. If they are tooled up here allready i doubt they would move everything. They are trying to get a foothold here, not move things fron here to there. If they wanted to move shit there they would just make an exact copy of the product from cheap shit and give it a close brand title and sell it. Your product isnt going to change probably... just its politics.

Are you sure it’ll be made in China? Looking at my pretty darn new Alpha SV jacket right now and the label says “Made in Canada” (they’re a Canadian brand, not US).

And for any who don’t know the brand, they focus on skiing/snowboarding, rock climbing, mountaineering, and other similar sports, but many of their products make for excellent hunting gear because of the solid features and unparalleled weather resistance + durability. I’ve tried others in that price tier and keep coming back home to Arc’Teryx.

ETA: Dang, @Texasflyer beat me to it

Ahhh canada, that makes sense. Canada and china are basically the same. They even get norico and other chinese junk guns there allready that we cant get. I wouldnt buy canadian over American if i needed a denim tuxedo to save my life.

So you hate what a free enterprise capitalist society breeds? Tons of business owners build a company, rise to the top, someone wants it for a shit ton of money and they say why not? I built this over the last xx years it's time I relax and retire with 10 billion.

Agreed. But stop the Chinese disease. Sell to another Canadian company then. Look I get it. I was just venting. Just disappointed is all.

Welcome to 10 years ago. When the Solomon Group bought Arcteryx the first thing they did was off-shore most of their production.

FWIW I replaced my 10 year old Atom LT with a new one and it has a "Made in Bangladesh" tag in it.

Switch to First Lite.
and please tell me, where is most of their stuff made?
I know my buddy got some new wool from them, thought it was China
Fuck China.

That’s all.
The govt and its minions yes.
The average citizen is much like us. Doesn't like their govt and just want to live their lives. And China is the largest Christian nation on the planet with over 500 million Christians. They like the "love first above all else" idea vs the govt mowing down your family.

Also, anyone interested, check out Voormi. OG owners, made in CO. Tad more expensive. I have some, stuff holds up better than most wool goods I have tried. Also, look at Point 6 socks. Also a CO company and US made goods.
I don't own stock or shares in either, just like good gear made in the USA.

Almost all supplement raw materials (vitamins, minerals, etc) come from China.
Of course there are reputable and not so reputable suppliers of raw materials.
it’s up the manufacture to choose and test properly.
Issue is higher quality is higher price as can be imagined.

This. It all used to be made in Vancouver, you could buy factory seconds at the shop for a song. In recent years only the top of the line stuff was still made in in Vancouver. I imagine everything will be made in China now. I've still got a friend or 2 who work for them, I'm gonna pick their minds outta curiosity. I'm Canadian and whenever possible I spend my hard-earned cash on the Berry-compliant stuff cause if I'm gonna spend a bunch of money, I'd rather it go to the States than some greasy commie fucks.

Arcteryx was on the doomed train the instant they sold out to Solomon in 2001, for a while some of the more expensive clothing and the LEAF/climbing gear was still made in Canada. This is pretty much the pattern, you have to catch companies before they become big/popular enough that they get bought out but what are essentially investment groups. Worse yet if the brand becomes a fashion statement, quality can tank and consumers won't even care. North Face, Marmot, Mountain Hardware, the list goes on and on. All started out as small super high quality gear brands, were bought out and quality dropped, and prices remained high.

I don't like it but right now, China is an economic powerhouse, they are buying up tons of property and popular brand businesses here in the US. Their economy is growing 3x faster than ours. Things keep going as they are they won't have to keep hacking us, they'll own us in a couple more decades. We thought a lot of our $ went to China before, just wait till they not only do the manufacturing, but own all the companies too.

I'll be dead by the time I wear all my USA shit out.
I do like my old Arcteryx shell which was made in Canada, Kuiu range jacket made in Canada and the couple of pairs of Triple Aught pants made
in commiefornia
So I won't be buying more, except for socks LL Bean wool works.
I can't master a foreign so chinese is out of the question.
Just my 2.
Although I would like to get a NF or Leupold for my MK 12 mod 1

Outdoor Research is a good alternative. Made in one of two factories in Seattle and El Monte, California.
But we have to be ideologically pure and CA is super-communist. Wait...that means I can’t buy Surefire too! Damnit! I can’t handle this flowchart of responsible consumption.

Seems to happen to most of the good gear companies. North Face made great gear then sold out to a clothing conglomerate and it all went to shit. Have sleeping bags, tents and jackets which are 30 years old which are still going strong. The new stuff is crap.

As much as I like Kifaru, Mountainsmith went the same way. Great product when Patrick Smith made it, but then he just sold out for mere money.

For every product, they show the manufacturing location for that product. Most are made outside China, but a few inside.

im guessing you go to Myanmar when Chinese manpower cost is too high!

Dang, I bought a Thorsen down parka last year because I’m spending a lot time in the Chicago area these days; warmest coat I’ve ever owned. 20 years ago I bought a Kamsin 38 pack from them and would stuff it with ultra light gear, a bivey bag, and enough dried food for 5 days to hunt mule deer or elk in Idaho. It weighed 28 lbs loaded and I would carry it all day and just camp wherever I found myself at nightfall. I still use it and I’ve not had one problem with it.

If they move manufacturing to China, my hope is some former employee starts their own line of domestically made high quality gear.

Something to consider is that a lot of the cutting-edge apparel tech only exists in China. You couldn’t make it anywhere else if you wanted to. Some technologies like 3D knit are starting to show up in Central America, and companies are moving certain high-expense ops to Vietnam and Korea to avoid duties, but all the Elon-Musk-of-fabric shit originates in China.

I get it, hating China is cool, but with highly technical apparel they really are out in front because they’re the best, not just the cheapest like we’re accustomed to. The machines to make some stuff only exist there.

When we decimated our domestic textile industry with NAFTA we dropped out of that race. China never stopped running it.

Have a dead bird jacket from back about 2000 made in Canada still going strong, shaped hood wire is popping out in places, a little delam in places.

Sucks when they let their product go commie.

Chicoms may be able to meet a spec but its stabbing your own people in the back to allow slave labor to kill their jobs.

FWIW to this point they only make things in China that are made better in China. Certain textile and apparel mfg methods have settled in certain places:

Wovens are in India and Bangladesh, with a secondary hub in Central America

Bags and luggage are PI and Vietnam

Gloves are Vietnam and Sri Lanka

Über-technical welded and bonded garments are in China, and emerging in VN and Korea to avoid duties but they’re Chinese run.

...and so on and so forth...

If you want the best waterproof breathable state of the art jacket, you’re not stabbing yourself going commie. Only the commies can do that. They’re the ONLY ones who can meet the spec.

The US sucks at technical apparel, and nobody wants to invest $1BN in infrastructure to have the capability when you have to pay people min. $17 an hour and they still don’t show up half the time.

Consumers damn sure don’t want to pay the cost to offset it.

Show of hands: how many people would pay $1700 for an Arcteryx Alpha was made in the USA?
