I wish you were right, but there legitimately are people who think the earth is flat. It blows my mind, which is why I started the thread. I would genuinely like to have a civil discussion about it.

This is kind of funny but your'e right. If the earth were flat, there would be no need what so ever for cell phone towers in flat areas. You would only need one transmitter and receiver for the entire state of Florida and you could just prop it up on the top of the Verizon building. But we know that's not the case.
But I disagree, great circles do work in the southern hemisphere as well. Just look at the flights leaving from Australia to South America.
They do the same thing as what happens in the northern hemisphere. The reason there is so much traffic in the northern hemisphere is because a majority of land mass is located there and as a result so does a majority of the population.

Well that was easy, 50 seconds in, the horizon is not flat in all photographs at any altitude. The photo below was taken from a U-2 Dragon Lady at an altitude of over 70,000 feet. The horizon isn't flat. And before you talk about fish eye lenses, notice that the wing just below the horizon is still perfectly straight. Notice the edge of his cockpit is also perfectly straight. If the lens of the camera were to distort the horizon, physics would say that the shape of the wing and the geometries in the cockpit would be equally as distorted.

I seriously can't believe this subject is even a discussion . BUT ! , one of my fellow workers is a Flat Earth believer . I honestly thought it was an inside joke when I first heard some guys talking about what the co-worker said . His only explanation ? His daughter is a college student and she believes . Alrighty then ? . Besides , just look at a World map on a wall . It's flat , dahhh !
I had a guy tell me the earth is flat and he could prove it. "Oh tell me more" I said. He said he drove to New York and back from Florida and used the same amount of gas both ways. If the earth was round he would have used more gas going up than coming back he said. 'Why I asked"? He said because you are driving up the Earth going and down the earth coming back. Going up hill all the way up should use more gas.

Hey, you do your own research or better yet duplicate some of the experiments mentioned in the two hour video posted above. Or even better yet post some testable, duplicatable, experiments that demonstrate the earth’s curvature. If NASA is telling us the truth from above it should be easily demonstrated from below.

I really dont understand the NASA conspiracy angle. The curved earth model predates NASA by more than 1000 years. Were all the people in the 1000 years before NASA also a part of the conspiracy?
K.I.S.S.- Why would anyone claim the World is round when in fact it is flat? No one. No one has any reason to trick the entire population into believing the World is round when it's actually flat. Hence, the Earth is round just as science, math, scientists tell us and astronauts observe it. Literally astronauts from aROUND the GLOBE. American, Russian(USSR), Japanese, French, Chinese, etc. Not to mention the privateers who have entered the stratosphere for various reasons. Not to mention the dozens of satellite operators watching down on Earth 24/7 for myriad of reasons.
Yup and satellites don't have to wait to image an area cuz they just hang there straight up above us . Thanks Niles for at least grasping for some proof. If that experiment were true, how would you ever see a ship at 33 miles? Or look across a miles wide lake and see a moose on the other side? Shoot you could only see a man on flat ground for three miles.

You can see the very top of the taller buildings in Chicago across lake michigan from the top of tower hill in Warren Dunes state park in SW Michigan on a clear day... about 50-60 miles away.
The dynamics of light can be a rather interesting subject... knowing what I know now, and in a different life, I would go that direction for a career.

The magnetic problem is a very hard one to get by on a flat earth.
Flat earth/phonograph/record shape, has an increasing velocity as you move out from the center of rotation.
Centrifical force would require an ever increasing gravitational pull as you moved closer to the edge.
Accretion, particularly in a zero gravity environment, is one very hard problem to surpass as well.

That’s only a problem is the disc is in “space”, but we know there is no such thing. The disk is on the back of a turtle in Zeus’s garden.
And the reason why gun barrels are rifled is because the spin that is placed on the bullet throws off the little demons that cling to each and every bullet that is fired. Those little demons make the projectiles fly way off course. Rifling=accuracy
