Gunsmithing Armalite vs DPMS barrel threading

Is there a difference between the AR10T and DPMS 308 barrel threading ? I understand the gas tube length is different. But if it is profiled for AR10T, not chambered or crowned yet, can it be used on a DPMS AR 308 rifle ???

The barrel will have to be threaded and profiled to fit the barrel extension you have.

Are you getting the barrel NUT and barrel EXTENSION confused?

The NUT threads on the upper receiver, not the barrel (Armalite and DPMS use different threads on their upper receivers).

The EXTENSION threads on the barrel, there are several small differences between the two here.

I've heard and read of people swapping barrels from one brand to another, normally without good results, but each rifle is an individual.

Clarification.....Barrels has threads on it already (it was a Rock blank in AR10T profile). Just needs to be chambered and crowned supposedly.


So question is, is there a difference in barrel extensions threads between DPMS and Armalite for the barrel ?

Yes they are different. The thread shank on the AR10 barrel is slightly larger than the one used on the DPMS but I don't know the exact size. If anyone knows I would be interested also. Thanks
