I’ve decided on the NightForce ATACR
4-16x42 for a 16” Recce build, Compass Lake barrel, @bigjake83 is putting together for me. I know it will be super accurate and think the dot in the Mil-c and Mil-xt are better suited for paper punching and steel at distance. I plan for this to be my primary go-to rifle for general use around my property as well...hunting deer/hogs/varmints, riding along in the UTV etc. At low power (4-6) do the Mil-r, -c, -xt all pretty much look the same? especially illuminated? ie a small red/green ‘t’. The -r and -c both have the upside down T shaped measurements in the lower right quadrant...is that more or less a visual impairment/distraction compared to the dots of the -xt? Or do neither bother you much (high or low power)? I have no plans to compete or do prs (2 young kids) but would like to take some classes at some point.
My gut has been the ATACR over the zp5 and AMG, center dot over cross, and specifically -xt > -c > -r...but would like some specific feedback as mentioned above.
Finally, the Mil-r is much easier to find second hand and is generally $400 cheaper...that’s a lot of ammo. Does that sway the decision for a long term purchase?
Thanks all.
