Diana Krall !!!!!!!!!! oh my gosh. I love turning her up, closing my eyes and its almost like she is sitting in my lap singing to me. Temptation and Love is are two of my fav's from her. Tubes provide so much more depth than sand amps. I have 65k songs on my pc that I listen to.
I’m a big fan of female singers. You should hear her with a300b set amp and the horn speakers. You can hear her breath. It’s scary real....
Honest to god, I've never heard a home audio system that sounded worth its money, same with live audio systems. Nothing ever sounds as good as it does through the master monitors. Absolutely fucking nothing. Once you hear that kind of shit day in and day out this entire thread turns into fool's gold with only a few notes.

Listen to vinyl via a McIntosh Amp , Bang and Olufsen Turntable , going to 2 Klipsch Heresy IV’s , 2 Bose 901’s.
Put on my Sennheiser Headphones for private listening . Basically the same setup since the late 70’s.

A tube amp with decent speakers is just the first step into HIFI. When I have time I try to convert to FLAC files, but man it takes forever since have so many songs on the PC.
I listen to lots of 80's and 90's and you can tell some were recorded like crap a times...but Vinyl is a whole world above anything. Its just like going from a sand amp to a tube. Spending extra money on NOS tubes is a wise investment. My little 35 watts can shake the walls in the house.

For a lot of reasons, particularly mixing a lot of LOUD, shitty Rock bands, my hearing is shot. No more Audiophile equipment for me, it's just wasted money. Our FOH system that I designed way back when was comprised of all TAD Transducers/Drivers. Fantastic stuff. Crown PSA-2 amps, good at the time, now, quite ancient. I had to gut the "over-engineered" power supplies and replace them with LM317's and LM337's. Ran fine, lasted a long time after that.

TADWestlake TM-1, but with all TAD Drivers, JBL/JBL 2405 slot tweeter delete;
Urei 811 Time Aligns, All Altec drivers;
These, with the matched UREI 6500 Amp were the shizzle;
i don't claim to be an audiophile, but my stuff is pretty decent but not super fancy and pretty old now.
i have a couple of Definitive Technology Bipolar towers, a center speaker and a couple of rear surrounds, driven by a Denon AVR 2301CI
the lows are pretty impressive with this setup.

You can build your own tube amp if you want. I did not think it was all that hard....or you can have him build one for you. If you truly love music its a worthy investment that will last a life time minus tube replacements. A tube amp will still be worth almost what you paid for it, minus tubes you buy in 20 years. Just remember its 2 channel. Tubes > sand amps.

Doesn't really matter, usually commonly available reference monitors, but heard a custom 8 foot tall pair that could probably blow a woman's clothes off too. What matters is that the engineer masters them to those speakers, and it will never sound better than that.
System belongs to me. the System is both analog (turn table) and digital..as well as solid state and tube.
Youre not far from me take a trip to Charlottesville and Ill play a horn system for you that will change youre attitude.
I run a Technics SP 10 Mk II with a Kuzma 4 pr 14" arm and a Transfiguration Proteus D cartridge. Accidentally erased the phots on computer or Id post it.
The diamond cantilever gives it a transparency and air Ive not heard in any other cart. Ive read that the Ortofon Anna D is perhaps even better.
Fair nuff, admittedly I over spoke saying not worth the money I guess. For home systems there's certainly a quotient of relative worth. I stand by my original point that OP has been beaten though, so you gotta come up here to Omega Studio and I'll change your mind, too.

Have an old pioneer d2s. Ds2 in direct more has some good specs. Back when I purchased it was AC3 ready. Had a Technics sound processor and it was used as home theatre for many years and way before it was cool... At 50lbs the d2s is pretty beefy and with my high efficiency KLH12 it would run you out of the room and still have no distortion.
Got a different receiver for the TV, with all the goodies / connections so repurposed the d2s.
Paired the d2s with a m91 amp and a pair Kef ls50 and a svs-3000 sub to fill in the lows.
Digital is brought by a schitt multibit connected to an Omen PC.
I almost exclusively listen to digital. Have tons of records, but the TT bit the dust a few years ago and wife chucked it in the garbage whilst I was on a work trip...lol.
Nothing like some of the stuff ITT, but sounds really good to my ears.

I'm all about tubes, and enjoying my first foray into higher end DAC's with a Lumin T2. It's great sound, but the app sucks balls. May have to pay for Roon which I'm not happy about. I have a PrimaLuna Dialogue Premium HP driving Monitor Audio Golds 200s. Hearing one of my favourite rock tracks, "In my time of dying" on that system for the first time was unreal. I have several hundred hours on it now and to be honest, I don't really buy into the 'burn in' hysteria. There's a lot of hocus pocus in hi fidelity world that I think is just snobbery at play.
Simple Minds doing their songs acoustic is fun as is anything Stevie Ray Vaughan. I was surprised at the depth and resonance of the singer's voice from Damage in their cover of Sounds of Silence. That was actually a really nice musical and emotional surprise. good speakers driven by a well engineered and componentized (sp!?) tube amp is a treat.

It's unfortunate because both manufacturers need to hire an advertising firm, production company, mobile recording company, properly mic up their products and record some good music in good accoustics. I've been looking for years and neither of them have any decent videos on Y/T, nor do they have anything on their websites.

Note, this is all based on listening to music with a tube amp and my uncles old Carver M 1.5t amp with Klispch horn speakers made from a kit back in the 80's of some sort that he built himself.
Vynl -King of all, nothing has the same depth/warmth that I have heard. There is a reason people spend 400+ on carts, not including the turntable.
analog - close and almost imperceivable to vynl with good equipment.
digital-has many caveats to it. You have to use the WASAPI driver and bypass windows down mixing by giving exclusive access to the software you are using, a good DAC, and then play FLAC/OGG files instead of mp3 files which degrade and lack depth. You can actually change pc software/file type and tell small differences in how they play. FLAC is king imho, but the file size gets huge compared to mp3's.
If you want Diana Krall to sound good, just play her songs on a nice system. if you want her to sing in your lap use a high end speaker/tube amp....and lastly..... if you want to close your eyes while sipping brandy/wine and feel the band members hands moving up and down the stringed instruments, someone's foot shuffle,her breathe, etc...well high end speakers, a tube amp, and vynl will feel like she is sitting in your lap breathing on you as she sings the way she does.
Leonard Cohen - A thousand kisses deep and Marty Robbins's gun fighter ballads are also very nice.
You can also listen to Pink Floyd and hear things in the background etc that you do not normally hear on an average system. Ozzy's Ultimate Sin is one that you can tell was not recorded as well as other songs which is brought out more with HIFI equipment....but it does feel like your powering thru the 80's going to the rock concerts back in the day.

they all have there own sound. Remember it’s only as good as the recording quality. The gear the room acoustics ..and component synergy all play in the overall sound... digital is quick and easy most of my files are DSD format. In my opinion they sound very natural,,
I miss this guy, the Guitarist From Another Planet. My photos of him are still on the wall at Naked Ear. He asked me to name the genre of his music and I told him Heavy Mental. It stuck.
I listened to Hedges for years growing up, as my dad got way into Windham Hill when they came out, but I finally had a chance to see him live here in Memphis back in about 1994 or so. Dude was a freak of nature - stunningly good.
