AutoTrickler V4

Just curious, what did the email say? I love Area419 and have a Zero Press, tons of PRS related stuff and all of the V3 goodies as well as a vudoo build I bought from them but they are taking forever to get new things to market. Im still waiting on the shellholder set they announced more than 10 months ago. Not sure how quickly they are going to bust out parts for the V4. That being said, a more forward platen would be great - love mine now which is coming off hopefully in the next two three weeks (I think my V4 should be shipping in the next two weeks according to the latest schedule)/
Hello ,
Welcome to the first SuperTrickler newsletter.
You have received this email because you have previously expressed interest in the SuperTrickler with Area 419 or you have subscribed directly with us.
For the last few months Area 419 and ourselves have been fighting with the problem of the worldwide shortage of electronic components and securing immediate and long term supply of parts.

We have managed to procure 1000, assembled PCB's for a first round of SuperTricklers, but after that we do not know when we can get more until the shortage crisis is resolved.
Unfortunately, this situation adds a lot of risk and uncertainty to production start-up costs for Area 419 and they have to make the investment decisions that are best for their business. As a result our production relationship has been dissolved.

Area 419 have been a great partner, helpful and supportive in every way possible and we understand the uncertainty created by the current world wide instability.

IT’S NOT THE END OF THE SUPERTRICKLER.

We have been investigating many options to progress forward with the SuperTrickler and of how to bring it to production as economically as possible. As a result we have chosen to move production to Denmark.

We are now in dialogue with various companies regarding the manufacture of the cabinet, assembly of SuperTrickler, freight and getting CE approval.

Unfortunately we have had to reset our product ready target to around the end of May 2022, unless something unforeseen occurs. The SuperTrickler will sell for US $600 for customers outside the EU (For European customers, 25% VAT will be charged, so the price ends up being US $ 750).

We expect the following freight rates: Worldwide: US$50 EU: US$25 Denmark: US$15.
We will also be able to offer a bundle version of the SuperTrickler, along with an FX-120i precision balance for US$1150 for customers outside the EU (For European customers, 25% VAT will be charged, so the price ends up being US$1,437.50).

We expect the following freight rates: Worldwide: US$100 EU: US$50 Denmark US$30.
We will be selling directly to the public, through Modgunn Security ApS, out of Denmark to keep the price as low as possible.

In the next few days our web page will be able to take US$150.00 pre-order deposits to secure your SuperTrickler. Orders will be processed on a first in, first out basis.
We will send out a notification when the website is ready!

Thank you for your patience – we apologise for the lengthy delay in production, but are looking forward to supplying you with a premium machine.

Kind regards,
Rex & Peter

As much as I love competition, I'm not taking a $150 risk, this should be a no-fee reservation, especially with the current situation at hand. I am generally not a fan of the kickstarter model.

Anybody that has received there v4, can I get a measurement? How tall is the entire unit with scale? I’m building some shelves and I want this to fit on the top bench under a shelf.

Thank you

16.5

Got mine yesterday. Love it. Upgraded from two Charge Masters.

For some reason, the first throw came out as 200 plus grains. Fortunately, it did not overflow the shot glass. Fine after that.

I can't remember when I placed the order but it was in the first day or two of the announcement.

Mine arrived today and I’m very impressed. Great build quality and is very fast. I was worried about going from two lites that it would be slow but when pouring over 50gn it really shines and is hardly slower than two lites

anyone have issues with v4 overthrow. Mine is overthrowing by substantial 4-6 GN. I have shimmed and calibrated with all permutations and combinations even to the point of shimming where there is nominal flow is the small trickler. Everything level. Scale works fine. Tried h1000. H4350. Super performance. Doesn’t matter. Sent email to Adam. No response yet. Anyone have any suggestions ? Thank you.

yes go to custom settings and reduce the large tube throw down to "2" and start the cutoff around 2.6. this helped significantly with mine and hardly slowed it down any

Yes. I have brought up this issue. It's a big reason I am disappointed in the V4. I continue to use the V3. The V4 is extremely fickle. What I did to prevent overthrows was use masking tape under the rear bumper to provide shimming.

What did Adam say? One main issue I have is that the axis of the large bore and small are the same and shimming the large dump affects the small trickler flow which I think he has set up to use as the sensor for calibration.

Another solution is to use a custom setting. Play around with the speed and it improves a little. Adam has been non responsive.🤷🏾‍♂️
Not good. Maybe he has covid. Or he’s really busy making these v4. Nonetheless when you mass produce without adequate supply chain infrastructure it lends itself to faulty products. I will give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

mine also had overthrow issues and it was worse with smaller charges. the big tube clearly moves too fast I reduced mine to 2 and it helped significantly

My V4 works very well right out of the box. No shimming or messing with any flow rates. Just calibrated for my powder and let it run. However I was not looking for 12. sec cycles and I’m throwing H1000 and v570 at over 50 grains. Totally happy with my purchase coming from a charge master w/ dandy trickler.

Varget, H4350 for now.

Something’s not right.

I use Varget, 4350, RL26 and H4895 and get near zero overthrows.

8 and 10 for speed settings will definitely result in overthrows. And 1.7 transition setting with 24.2 flow on the large tube seems way too small.

(My only niggle is it’s slower than V3)

Make sure when you do the calibration that you have PLENTY of powder in the hopper. If you don’t have more than enough powder (call it half full), the calibration gets skewed because the flow of powder slows down during calibration making the system think it has to spin the main tube longer for a given charge to dump. Then, when you go to throw a charge, it spins the main tube longer than needed because the calibration was skewed on flow rate, thus dumps more powder over your chosen target charge.

Funny thing is my best throws for 50 rds were when I hit calibrate without powder and realize it. But dumped throw anyways.

Yea. I've messed with the V4 quite a bit over the last few months. I was one of the early orders on day 1. Made different adjustments from nothing out of the box to everything I can think of. It overthrows like crazy. To me, it's kinda a POS TBH but I'm already heavily invested so whatever. Adam's non response is kinda but off, as well.

My V3 is much much quicker. I can throw 34.6 gr of Varget in 4 seconds flat. The V4, at it's quickest, is around 10 seconds.

I typically don’t like to trash

I typically don’t trash products. But if the company is radio silent about what appears to be reproducible across multiple users that tells me that perhaps it is a known problem and they chose not to disclose or address it. Doesn’t bode well and competition is the only way to get them to change. Or we just are left with a pile of junk.

There’s no way it should have shipped with the main tube settings where they are at. I’d be hard pressed to believe not one tester had these issue because it’s obvious the main tube is too fast for the scale to keep up.

I think we have to accept that it‘s slower - for me, 30 gr of Varget & 4895 run closer to 12-15 seconds. I think your current settings are looking for speed over reliability.
Even when running it super slow... It overthrows. Lol

I even played with it in that direction. I had it throw 43 gr of H4350 over 20 seconds. It settled at 43.32 😐😐

Are you running an FX120I? I’ve seen folks who try to run the other A&D scales with the V4 have this issue.

I’ve also been working with Adam to fix the stall issue of the small tube.

I also did Beta testing.

The scale can absolutely keep up. It sends weight to the Autotrickler something like 20 times per second. The magic is in the Autotrickler knowing to slow the tube down/ramp it down/stop the tube. The only way the Autotrickler knows this is through a good calibration to learn flow rate, which is where shims are coming into the picture.

This setup is very level dependent. For me, I found the sweet spot was a post it note shim for H4350 and Varget. That’s based on me leveling my scale. Yours could be different. Once I put the shim in, and had a hopper 1/3 full of powder, then I could run a calibration that got things pretty good to go. Now it isn’t perfect, I can throw a few in the 12 second range and then there will be one where the trickled tube runs forever to get the last few kernels to tumble out.

Recheck your scales setting for set up.
I have. Trust me. I have literally had the V3 and V4 for awhile now. I've gone through complete tear down and setup. Checked every setting in the scale to match what the manual says. Wiped and leveled every surface. The V4 is a very short throw in performance when compared to the V3 IMHO.

Where can we get one if those tips. That is the big issue I see right now is a stall at the end which causes it to push a clump of kernels. Other than that I have not had any other issues. Runs great.
