Re: Available grants for suppressors?
Wow! Thanks for the warm reception. Fellas, I mearly live and work in this state. While the weather is awesome, I don't take credit for all the fucked up gun laws on the books. I served my country and pay my taxes (which are probably much more than most of yours), so there is no reason to be a bunch of assholes because I live in California. I can assure you, I feel the same as most of you when it comes to weapons laws and I vote accordingly.
As far as the need for suppressors, you can read through the numerous other threads in this forum to see the value in suppressors. But to appease those of you who don't already know the answer, they provide several advantages.
Hearing. Like I said, I am on a swat team, and we shoot quite frequently. Hearing protection is a must during training, and a suppressor won't replace that, but during an actual mission, standard hearing protection is not feasible. We need to be able to hear what's going on around us and communicate with our teammates and command post via radio. I am aware of electronic earmuffs, but they are almost just as expensive as a good suppressor and they have their own downsides. In the event we have to pull the trigger inside a room, with no hearing protection, it will very likely result in hearing damage. A suppressor will diminish that chance of hearing damage tremendously.
Flash signature. We currently run with night vision. A good Suppressor will virtually eliminate flash. Dealing with flash while running with NVGs can temporarily blind you. That, my friend, might get me killed.
Muzzle rise and recoil. A suppressor often reduces recoil and muzzle rise, therefore making the shooter more accurate with follow-up shots.
Like I said, there are numerous reasons to run with a suppressor, and I'm sure there are people here that could add to this list. I don't claim to be the expert, and I learn something new each time I log onto this site. So ease up on the hostility. I know I'm not the only one that would benefit from some real answers to my questions, but with the kind of response I got, no one is going to ask.
For the record, I have already begun researching through other channels, and am working with a Surefire rep. I just hoped someone here on SH had been down this road and could offer some guidance. I by no means am asking anyone to write the damn grant for me.
To those of you that have offered real assistance, Thank You.
