If I wanted to put my Remington 700 SPS Tactical into one of these chassis, what would I need besides the chassis itself? Right now I have a pretty basic set-up with a Bushnell Elite Tactical 5-15X with Weaver 6 hole "tactical style" rings. No base

Any idea how heavy that combination would be?

You'll need a scope base (obviously), but aside from that, all you need to do is bolt the barreled action into the chassis and go (although some additional mags wouldn't hurt).

As for weight...I'd guess around 15lbs give or take a little (unloaded of course). That's based on ~7lbs for the barreled action, ~6lbs for the chassis and ~2lbs for scope, rings, base, etc.

Thank you...does it have to be a base specific to the chassis? As in one sold by AI?

It occurs to me that we may be talking about different things here based on your comments and your sig line where you list having a 15MOA EGW base. You mentioned you have: 1) your rifle; 2) a scope; and 3) rings...but no method of attaching your scope/rings to your rifle in the way of a scope base (i.e. - your comment about "no base" in your original post). If you weren't talking about a scope base...what are you talking about?

That said...any base made for a Remington 700 Short Action (SA) should work just fine. Whether or not you want/need a canted base is up to you. If you plan on mounting any forward night vision devices, etc., just make sure that you buy the scope base and accompanying AI forend/chassis rail that matches your scope base cant (they make 0, 20 and 30 MOA rails for the chassis).

Re: AX AICS

I used a Nightforce 20moa mount but they do sell an AI mount the allows to line up with forend rail section if you're using a night vision.

With the Nightforce I was able to use a very low mount on my scope to get it very close to forend.

Actually, you're right. I fail at life. I do have the EGW 15 MOA base. Rough day I guess.

Nevertheless, you guys have answered my question. I think if my base were 20 MOA it would be ok but it probably won't work as a 15 MOA since it won't match the rail on the foreend of the AX AICS.
