AXMC Long Action - 6.5CM Chamber Length???

Hey guys I just bought the short action conversion for my AXMC and the 6.5CM barrel from Mile High. It swaps out without issue and everything seems fine however I was prepping for reloads and kept jamming the bullet into the lands, even when I chambered some factory Hornady ammunition. The barrel shoots fine and no signs of excessive pressure have shown up (sticky bolt, cratered primers, etc). This being my first AI, I'm not familiar with their COAL lengths. Is this normal for an AXMC barrel to be jamming the bullets into the lands with factory ammo?

Sorry should give you more info. If you are jamming the bullet into the lands, when you eject that bullet it would most likely leave the bullet in the barrel and you would have to remove it with a long wooden dowel. If it stays with case compare the length with another bullet and check the bullet for scratches to see if you are actually touching the lands.In any case Email A I USA at their web site they are very helpful.

Here you can see the lands are touching the bullet almost to the case mouth. The bullet is not engaging so hard as to seat the bullet further nor to pull it from the case but it does make extraction sticky for the unfired case. I've got a set of go/no go gauges from PTG and they fit perfectly with the no go not able to close the bolt. Thoughts???

I don't have both to tell you this but I'm sure the long action weighs more as its a longer action and to use the short action cartridges you have to add the adapter and use a longer bolt that all add weight

i have the AXMC and don't feel the weight anymore, currently running a 3-27, Spuhr, 30p1 & atlas

have you measured the barrel for distance to lands ?

get a wood rod and stick it in from muzzle end with a closed bolt. get a razor blade or something very thin and score the rod at the muzzle. Now take a new loaded round and place in chamber, apply pressure to bolt like chambering, and place that wood rod in again. Mark the rod again. Now measure the 2 marks. That should be a good indication of your max overall length with that bullet combo before jamming into lands if its jamming. Now measure that round and see if there is room.

this might be dumb but are you sure its a 6.5 creedmoor barrel ?

i had a customer think he was running a 6.5 creedmoor but ended up having a Ruger PR in 308.

Your chamber needs some attention. The bullet would either be pushed farther into the case or stick in the barrel If you jammed it that far into a barrel with full height lands.

I marked the bullet so that the marks would be plainly visible but have not adjusted the bullet seating after cycling it thru the chamber. The bullet was neither seated deeper nor pulled out but was sticky to extract from the chamber. I agree that it appears the bullet is hitting the lands but they don't appear to be full height...... I'll talk with Mile High to see what their thoughts are.

I had the same issue with my 6 creed from mile high with loaded ammo from Copper Creek. It would jam in, when I ejected it, the bullet would stay in place and rain powder all over the place.

I can’t imagine jamming a bullet that far by closing the bolt. It would take a lot of force to stick a bullet that far into the lands.

I never called, I just shelved the barrel. The rounds chambered easily.
