Backpack for PRS matches

Last year I ran a eberlestock hispeed 2 and liked it, but a little small when I wanted to throw rain gear in. I had to hang my shooting bags on the outside as well.

I was looking at the shape charge and then use a Sherman pocket to hold rain gear If the forecast was bad. I got one for my dad to hunt with as a gift and really liked it but I wanted some sort of frame. Ended up going with the new 22 mag Gen 2 since I love using their frame system with my woodsman pack.

My take aways after getting it set up is it’s on the larger size and the one large pocket is different than the hispeed 2 but I like it. Got some of the organizer pockets from kifaru and it’s easy to make the pack smaller with their straps.

If you don’t want a framed bag go with the shape charge and if you want a frame get the 22 mag.

What size frame did you put the bag on? Would you mind posting some pictures?

How do you guys attach your tripods to your packs?

On the 3 Day Assault Mystery Ranch and similar...
We put 2 legs into the water bottle pocket at the bottom of the bag. Then use a beaner on elastic or a quick disconnect snap and wrap the line around the top of the tripod and clip it to the carry handle on the bag. Simple, fast, cheap and very effective. If I have a few tonight, I will take a picture of it.

I don't shoot PRS but would a TacOps drag bag work?

I love my TacOps drag bags, but they are not really fit for purpose for lugging around rifles and gear at a match.

Personally I use an Arcteryx LEAF Assault 30 pack. I love it, very well built and a smart design with the zipper so you can access any part of the main compartment. Inside the main compartment has Velcro so you can add smaller pouches or accessories to your liking. Slots for hydration packs and hoses, among other clever design features.

You can occasionally find it on sale.

I’m a noob to the forum and am definitely not a prs shooter, but I do admire a good bag. London bridge trading makes some damn good bags and a few times a year they run some super sales. A few years ago I bought their 3 day assault pack for 70$ which normally retails at 210$. I use an exo mountain gear for my hunting pack and it’s great. They’re on the more expensive side and large side although they do have some smaller packs. But they’ll carry a rifle and whatever else you need and compress down really nice so even if you don’t need all the space they’re still practical and useful.

Resurrecting this one again to see if anyone has any real world experience with the Stone Glacier Kiowa?
The weight is right, looks like you could pack enough crap in there to stay comfortable when you need it but also have the ability to +/- small compartments on the interior. Dunno..

I own several Eberlestock packs. Here are my opinions/observations:

The Gun Runner is too small for necessary match gear and too small for most "big" precision rifles. For a short shooting outing or a smaller day-pack for hunting it is great.

The Phantom is too big/heavy for a match. I feel that it has too much room and I end up feeling the 'need' to add extra gear to fill the pack up. While the removable scabbard is nice, the extra hardware/layers to accommodate the modularity makes it heavier than need be. For me, this one is too big.

The Lo Drag is about the right size. I feel like this pack allows me to take what I need, and I don't end up feeling like I want to add extra/unnecessary stuff. The only think I don't love about the pack is the "angled" main compartment sections. I feel like when I lay the pack down flat, stuff likes to puke out of it. That being said, it works and is the one I currently run in matches.

I still think the Gunslinger II might be the best all-around pack for my needs. About the same size as the Lo Drag, but without the angled pockets. But sold my Gunslinger long ago. Might be time to get my fourth Eberlestock...

Thank you .....this is solid info right here.
