Of these two action what action would you chose for a custom tactical build? I am either going to do a 6.5mm of some sort or a 6mm dasher. I will be using an AICS chassis. I know the badger requires a bit more work to get it to fit in the AICS stock but they look very nice!!! I am really after what action is the superior product. Fit finish smoothness lockup those type of things, I know this is a tough choice, so i was hoping someone could help me with this decision. Thanks Lee

Re: Badger M2008 vs Surgeon tough choice!!!!!

As far as which is superior, that's like the usual USO vs Premier vs S&B debate... mainly subjective. Go with whichever you like better as both are great actions.

Personally I like the M2008.

Man, seems like you buy a new action every week!!

I havent personally seen the Badger, but I like alot of the features it offers for a repeater. But, I dont know how well a Dasher is going to feed in it, with that short case and steep shoulder.

It would be an interesting build.

Im a huge fan of the surgeon action. My friend chris just got one back from GAP and its smooth as hell and the quality is top notch.

Oh man, are you in for a world of hurt. I own both, 3 of each to be exact. I still don't know. But, the Badger has 1 advantage and that is, if you are using the short action for a build, most people are using the double stack magazine, AW. Disadvantage, less stock options. Other than that, good luck! You can't go wrong either way.

I love my BO, but I have never owned a Surgeon. I too feel you can't go wrong with either, but I just bought my second, and plan on getting a third in the future. While the Surgeon action might be a great action, I've found the BO to give me everything I need in an action. It's smooth as glass, short bolt throw, uses AW mags, and comes from a great company.

Re: Badger M2008 vs Surgeon tough choice!!!!!

For me, the decision came down to the stock. I like the Badger in AICS better, and the Surgeon in more conventional stocks. Still, you really are getting a great action whichever one you choose.

seems you have already made your mind up. So why do you keep asking? </div></div>

You should already know that skeetlee doesn't use the search button let alone know what he posted hours apart.... lol

Re: Badger M2008 vs Surgeon tough choice!!!!!

NIce try. My rifle didnt make it home this weekend like i had hoped. I have been extreamly bored. So I have read on this subject for 2 days straight. I just couldnt find all the info i was wanting, so what else to do but ask! And ya I like to talk!! LOL Thanks guys! Lee

Re: Badger M2008 vs Surgeon tough choice!!!!!

I wish the Badger didn't weigh 3.5 lbs, which puts it 50% heaver than the Surgeon. To some, it won't matter, but I prefer lighter rifles.

Re: Badger M2008 vs Surgeon tough choice!!!!!

I have GAP rifles with both Surgeon and Badger actions. I don't think you can go wrong with either. If I was going with an AICS build I personally would go with the Badger. I just think the Badger looks great in an AICS.

Re: Badger M2008 vs Surgeon tough choice!!!!!

Surgeon, because it's already had all the kinks worked out in a time proven design. You also won't have to worry what generation you have now that badger has changed action dimensions, or if they change them again down the road.

I don't think he was saying there was, just that they have changed the design.

Surgeon is based on the rem 700 and can fit into stocks for a 700 after opening up the recoil lug area.

Same as with the surgeon.

Re: Badger M2008 vs Surgeon tough choice!!!!!

I went with a badger. Too bad it will be a few years untill I can complete the build. At least I have one GAP I can shoot right now.

For the record, the two changes for the short action were they changed the barrel threads to match the Magnum actions for uniformity and the bolt stop was changed to the same pattern as the Magnums.

Re: Badger M2008 vs Surgeon tough choice!!!!!

I have 3 surgeon actions and love them. There both on the same level but i just like the surgeon better

The Surgeon XL is a tank. very nice but little heavy for hunting rifle but i still drag it around
