I know these are still sold but it seems you only see these once in a blue moon. Seems like the m2008 was more popular and after the m2013s quiet release it just fell to the way side. Which seems strange given the surge in popularity of smaller degree bolt throw, think Curtis custom and the Nucleus.

For those of you that run them how do you like the m2013? I keep telling myself I’m gonna eventually do a 300PRC on one.

my gut always said they were a cosmetic fix for R700 drop-ins to look like a AI, when the chassis came out.

they were made to "look" like a AI (square) while being stronger/better than a R700

with all the actions out now there are probably different ways to go with your money

I have 2) M2008 short actions, a 260 with about 6,000 rounds thru it. The more I shoot it the more I like it.

My guess is that AI’s have come down a lot in price, so if someone wanted an AI, they buy an AI now.

I also agree with Buffybuster, a lot more chassis and stocks to choose from when going with a 700 footprint.

I'd still think they're comparatively cheaper than building an AI least the most current generation AIs are by no means cheap. My customs are around 3000-3700. Last i looked at the AT is still upward of 4k.

How's the bolt lift compared to say a Tempest or Curtis that are designed to remedy the stiff bolt lift associated with 3-lug actions?

I have the Tempest is why i was curious since there are no LA variants and i've got magnum build in my head the M2013 was what i looked at next. For all intensive purposes the Tempest is pretty much an AI AT in a 700 footprint, breeching ring, lug pattern, all the same. As i mentioned in another thread if the AX/AXMC double stack 300wm mags are usable in 3-lug actions like the Curtis or Bagder that would be all the more reason to go 60 degree 3-lug. But i also just honestly love my Tempest to death and having a magnum that feeds and feels similar would be awesome. Swept handle on a good 3-lug is hard to be IMHO. There is a 3-lug i do hate, Sako 85 has one of the stiffest bolt lifts i've ever owned or had.

I’ve had both the M2013 and M2008. The bolt lift on the 13 was noticeably smoother and lighter than the stock 08. However, after getting the upgrades shroud and firing pin for the 08 it’s vastly better. In fact it’s the only custom I have held on to.

The action is comparable to 700 footprint actions in that its a rifle action, and push feed.

They’re extremely well made, Marty is one of the best guys in the industry, and they are stout enough to handle silly shit. I’m a big fan of the breeching rings they use in them (and the Tempest). Swap bolts and breeching rings and you can go from the PRC to a big 338 or 300NM.

They’re heavy, stock and chassis options are limited, and people cry about bolt lift. Other than that, they’re built like a brick shithouse.

Mine isn’t going anywhere, ever.

The Sentinel DMB only runs SAAMI length AICS mags, as far as I’m aware. I don’t have any other 338 mags on hand to try or I’d give a more intelligent answer. That’s my one complaint with it. Looking at it and measuring everything, I think it could be machined longer and wider, it’s beefy, so if you don’t mind having someone do the work or doing it yourself, I think it could be possible. I’ve been curious, I like the AX mags a lot better and would also like to be able to use CIP length mags in it.

Mine is a 27” MTU contour Bartlein. Slower twist than most use but I’ve got me an idea so it’s gonna get shot.

The AX AICS can be machined to take the M2013, and I think Marty might actually have some on hand. XLR inlets for it, Manners, McMillan, KRG was and wasn’t inletting, not sure if they are at the moment, I cant remember any others off the top of my head. Choices are real limited for the M2013 LA, that’s one annoying thing.

One last thing, I love the combo. I think the Sentinel and a LA M2013 is a fantastic combination and it feels great. It’s going to be my primary elk gun for an upcoming Idaho hunt. I only haven’t shot it yet because the local range got shut down, and I don’t have reasonably close access to another one to do load development, and I’m NOT paying loaded ammo prices for 338NM.

Mine is still the gold standard in my mind. I don’t have any updated pics with the longer 6 Creed barrel it’s currently wearing. I had it Ionbonded, it’s very smooth and slick, and I think the bolt lift is lighter than the Curtis actions I’ve built. One of these days I’m going to start on a long action version.

My M2013 may be the action I never sell. It has been completely reliable-run in snow, mud and rain without issue. The bolt throw weight lightened up out after the first 1K rounds but has always been smooth. It is comparable bolt lift to the Tempest, Tikka, and of course the AI.

The Vector is a vastly different design. The Vector's three lugs are at 12, 4, and 8 o'clock - not equidistant. Its fire control has several innovative design elements. It is extremely slick and fast cycling. It is however, quite finicky with respect to AW mag lip position and early versions are intolerant to virtually any pressure on the mag. The M2013 can be cycled whilst supporting the rifle from the magazine. It'll run even beater AW mags without issue.

The Vector, not so much. Later changes in the Vector incorporate a slight notch at the front of the magazine cutout which was explained to me to be support for the magazine and prevent it from binding the bolt under pressure. I've cycled the new version and there may be some improvement, but nowhere near the robustness of the AI/M2013.

Lastly, customer service is fantastic. Call Badger and you'll usually get the owner. Marty is a great guy and generous with his time.

For prone, slow fire, it’s right up there with the best your money can buy, but it will not offer you slick/light bolt manipulation.

I polished mine extensively, turned it down to minimum firing pin fall, lightest reliable firing pin spring and had it IonBonded and it was still too heavy for me.

They ARE full of features though, from a breach ring and LONG tennon to firing pin fall adjustability and tool-less disassembly, they do offer a lot for the $.

To be honest, theres a bit of a difference between the 2008 and 2013, especially in bolt manipulation. And as for 3 lugs to each their own, but gotta love the short bolt throw

I love mine. I do think they’re an acquired taste. The 13 is still dealing with the rep of the 08 but to me the 2 are noticeably different in bolt lift and smoothness

M2013/08 are great actions. There several things that can be done to make the bolt feel like a 2 lug action (light and smooth). If anyone is interested in the specifics PM me. The Tempest is basically a M2013 with a 700 inlet. There are very is very little different about it. The M2013 is one of the first if not the first aftermarket action that prefit could have been available for this is due to the tolerances of the breach ring mostly among other things. Prefit's are currently available for M 08/13's from my company.

I ran a Badger action from 2012-2015 and loved it. Would hesitate to go back to one ever.

I ended up buying a 375CT and the norma went to the safe queen status. I was going to sell the rifle and I had it up on here for a while but decided that I can always just keep it in the safe. Maybe pass it down to the kids when that day comes. I've also thought about changing it over to something smaller, maybe something like a 7-338 Norma or something fun.

yeah its a long action with the lapua mag bolt face. I'm not sure if a guy can swap out the bolts for a smaller bolt face.

The LongSword DBM (basically a version 2.0 of the original SENTINEL Long Action DBM) is available now.

It is now capable of handling CIP length magazines as well as using a spacer to accomodate SAAMI length mags and actions. In the past, the only CIP length DBM offered in the SENTINEL stocks was for the Surgeon XL actions.

Regarding the M2013 actions, they are indeed very nice and have been hammers with everything built on them.

Cant go wrong with a 2013. Put a bix n Andy on it ro control sear engagement and their light reset pressure make the action pretty slick. Mines got a rd bolt knob on it now.

Unless something changed, they won’t accept an axmc mag. They are made for AICS mags.

AI has something like 18 different mags available, from AE, AICs, AW, AX, and AXMC. Pretty sure for the M2013 La its the aics cip mags that fit. Was under the impression newer production AXMC's used their own proprietary mags. While the older rifle some had AX mags, the short actions anyways.

KRG offers the Badger M2008/2013 in Long Action, McMillan will do both LA and SA. It's a flat bottomed action, with two integral recoil lugs. I can't imagine an easier action to inlet for, any R700 inlet chassis can be modified. It's an easy job for a competant gunsmith. The action bolt spacing is the same as a R700.
