After many years of wanting one, I finally got the chance to own a Badger M2013. I purchased one from the PX here recently, and there isn’t a whole lot out there regarding these actions compared to pretty much any other custom-level action. From what I have read however, is that the M2013 isn’t worth the trouble and just to go for an AI instead. Well now that I own one, I feel like I should speak up and make my opinions known so that others can maybe know what to expect if they are considering one in the future.

From what I know, the action I have is an early model serialed A0066. Prior to me owning it, it’s seen 5000+ rounds and a number of different barrels and calibers. The barrel currently is a 20 inch Bartlein in 6 Creedmoor, 1-7.7 twist with roughly 100 rounds through it. The stock is a 1 of 1 Manners that has no serial code, and they have no record of it even being made. After receiving the rifle, I sent it to them to refurbish. It wasn’t in terrible shape but could definitely use a tune-up. I also had them refinish it in Olive Drab, where it was previously rattle-canned tan. I really like the stock, and would say it’s closest to an EH1-A. Manners did a fantastic job with a surprisingly quick turnaround.

Since getting the stock back I have spent some time behind the rifle, and can say that it’s been a real pleasure to run so far. The action is hilariously smooth, and it runs AW mags like a dream. The bolt lift isn’t the lightest in the world, but when properly ran it is not noticeable whatsoever. No hitches or hangups with binding, it’s just nice. Very little bolt play when brought to the rear, stays tight and true the whole way. I’ve owned many 700 clone custom actions in all bolt lifts, and this one is up there with the best of them. I will be looking into timing the trigger, or getting one with an adjustable sear engagement. It currently has a TT Special single stage.

Very happy with this purchase, and looking forward to getting it out and stretching its legs once I get it setup the way I want for varmint hunting. Thinking about going for a nice clip-on thermal to place on that EFR up front. Also pondering on what optic to roll with that works well with the thermal clip-ons, (that’s not a LPVO) as well as what height everything should be. Let me know what you guys think, and if you’ve owned one of these let me know your opinions or suggestions!

I had a badger M2008 and an Aw at the same time. The AW was better. The 2013 was an improvement though. Remember that when the AT came out, it was $2k cheaper than the AW that preceded it. So buying the real McCoy vs the M2013 made obvious sense at the time. But if you didn't like the AI stock, and many didnt, the Badger was the only game in town.

None of that takes away from your rifle. Having 5k rounds on it only improved it. You have a kick ass rifle, enjoy it!

I had a 2013 that I never went forward with and sold. I still have the thumbhole Manners in the garage. I do have a 2008 that my 338 Norma is built on and I couldn’t be happier, love that rifle. I think they’re great actions and you’ve got a gorgeous setup. The last time I talked to Marty, he made it seem like he was out of the action game so the only hope for a return would be that Mac Bros does something, as mentioned above. Unfortunately, that is the story for parts as well, and that is why I didn’t go forward with the 2013 that I had.

I'm glad you're enjoying the rifle!
The stock is an EH1 flat top that i snagged off the hide and then sent to manners for inletting.
I sent it with a light rifle EFR but it interfered with the mlok rail on the bottom. Tom had an extra lower half of the standard EFR lying around and built up the stock so it could be installed.

I later sent it to Joe Ducos to have the KMW logger head cheek piece installed.

The only issue I ever had with the action was the nitrided body wearing on the softer cocking piece which was my fault due to not keeping it greased. Marty replaced the cocking piece and told me to keep those surfaces greased.

The first precision rifle that i saw in person was a badger m2008 338 lapua in an aics 1.0 (maybe 1.5 or 2.0 can't remember) and I've wanted one ever since. I'll get around to it one of these days.

What about using a weaker striker spring ? That matched with a timed trigger would probably help quite a bit. I know the Nuke 2.0 with the factory 25lbs is significantly heavier than the 19lbs.

A 2013 with nitrided bolt and body, several 6 & 6.5creed barrels.

A short action mag bolt(also have a spare 308 bolt) in 6.5prc, 25" and 22" bart barrels.

Something to remember, the 2008s can be updated to be almost as nice as 2013 bolt lift. Also serial number 100 and lower 2008 have a different thread tenon and headspace than the rest of the badgers. Also their bolt stop location made their bolts unique to that action. Later 2008 and 2013 bolts can be swapped.

Is this still available? 😆

On my 2, 1 is nitrided action and bolt and pretty sure it's had a coil clipped on fp spring. The other is cerakoted, with the og 308 bolt cerakoted and the mag bolt i bought parked. Both those bolts have unmolested fp springs and are heavier than my other 2013. I put both of those factory bolts equal/very similar to AT bolt lift I had. The nitrided and clipped(?) 2013 is real close or a hair lighter than my 15k+ rd ae mk2. That really sucks about badger not making anymore. I stocked up on small parts, extractor and springs for my 308 and mag bolts. The ejector and spring is rem700.

Hey everyone, due to some unforeseen financial complications, I am sad to say that I must part with this rifle prematurely. As much as I don't want to, this rifle will be posted for sale later today in the PX. I appreciate all of the engagement and positive feedback on this thread. Just wanted to let everyone know here first, thank you.

Rivers Bend in Missouri will cut it. Can confirm they do phenomenal work.
I called Jeff about a month ago. His answering machine has a message that he took a full time machinist job and does not gunsmith anymore, except for 2013 stock inletting, which is done on an evening/weekend basis when he has time. I've got 2 ai chassis down by Jeff, his work is fantastic.
