Range Report Barrel sped up, should I be concerned?

I have about 12-1300rds through my 6.5 criterion barrel. I just cleaned it thoroughly, pic of what came out, and I’m usually at 2815-2825fps but 80rds post deep clean, I ran my barrel over the labradar and I’m getting consistent 2850-2860fps. I haven’t changed anything. And it still groups 1/2minute
Verified at 800yds and my buddy’s group is bottom, and mine is to the right. We had some considerable winds last night

Pretty common for a barrel to speed up but that’s usually between 200-500 rounds depending on type of barrel and quality.

Velocity will be higher for several rounds on a clean/smooth bore so I suggest running another 10-20 rounds through it to foul it up fairly good and then re-chrono. If it’s still giving those speeds then it just took longer for yours to speed up.

Two weeks ago 77degrees had me right at 2815, last night it was 72 and was 2850

Kinda strange at that round count.
Keep notes and chrono again after another 25.
If it maintains the speed all the better, free speed.

You might have missed a carbon ring. They’re subtle & insidious, but an unexplained velocity spike is the first visible sign. The next is a blown primer.

I have a big match tomorrow and went out and verified just now and groups awesome still. I take it not mess with it until after I shoot tomorrow? I don’t have a borescope yet, what do you suggest?

Adjust your velocity in your kestrel. If it looks like you are starting to favor low at distance consider dropping your velocity back down, otherwise don’t think over think it.

If you had never run the barrel over the chrono, where would we all be now? Some information is too much information.

Shoot the match. Stop dwelling on a "might be" issue and just play your role in the match. Put the question in the rear view.

Then; if it's broke, fix it.

There is no longer a good reason not to own a borescope. I got mine, set it up this weekend, and it works, period.

My laptop is a lost cause so I dropped the dime on this.

Certainly nothing catastrophic. But like I mentioned, if it is a carbon ring, left untreated a blown primer could be next. And if it’s with a Jewel trigger, it becomes a broken trigger - game over.

I might have missed it earlier but did you mention what your SD and ES were before the strange velocity shift compaired to what they are now?
