Whe shooting I try to keep

my barrel temp down below 118 then rest it by shooting another gun.

question is when shooting in cold weather ... barrel temp is no issue but I was thinking the internal ballistics are having the same impact and I shouldn’t be fooled into shooting ad nauseam.

I have experienced that a cold barrel can be more constrictive. The cold steel against the brass case can quench the burn of powder lowering velocity and as the barrel warms up velocity increases, then plateaus. The cold I believe effects the mechanics of the steel influencing internal ballistics regardless of powder stability.

well one thing was certain, bullet was flying considerably lower at temps below 20F the past two days. Will have to review dope data in detail as this was a first to see close to 1.7 MILS difference to other days.

seems below 20 had a dramatic effect
