I'm thinking about purchasing a rem 700 5r and placing it in an AICS chassis. Can anyone recommend any alternatives? Specifically a good place to buy a custom barreled action that I can put in an AICS chassis. I'd like to spend no more than $2k on a barreled action. Thanks in advance.

With no specification and as open ended a question as that is, your gonna get alot of vague answers. Try and give some specifics, as I can think of way too many options to write down.

The Stiller group buy may still be going on, check the group buy section. From what I understand, they will be happy to chamber a barrel of your choice to the action of your choice, and reviews say they do a good job of it.

Hey SmimL7 I was just in the same predicament you are in. I wanted to get a .308 built for a decent price. I did as posted above. Went with a Tac30AW action from Stiller, Rock Barrel 20 inch 1:11.25 twist, Jewell trigger, and an AICS 1.5 stock. Having the barrel sent to Stiller to have fitted for around 200ish. Total for me was about $2400 but I bought everything but the action and barrel used.
