Barrett m99 real word opinions

Hello like the title says I anm eyeing a m99 in .50 and was curious if they are worth a crap or not. I hear mixed reviews that they are not accurate and they are accurate. I am thinking of one for fun, slamming metal targets at 2k yards maybe a random hunt for bear if I feel like doing something stupid. I would like it to hold about a 1-1.5 moa ish group out to distance with factory loads such as the Hornady a-tips.

Does anyone have any pictures or accuracy reviews of a m99?

I had an M99 in 416. It was fun to shoot but I wouldn’t say it was sub moa precision. It was awhile back but I seem to remember it was 1+ moa. I was shooting the factory Barrett ammo. Maybe be better with hand loads? Think more anti-material rifle than precision rifle. It was cool and if you want a big rifle for a range toy go for it. Would be cool if you could re-barrel them with a Bartlein but I don’t think it’s an option.

I had a 99 in 50bmg for a few years. It’s a fun gun, and definitely attracts attention at the range. I guess if your expectations are in line, you won’t be disappointed. Full metal jacket/ball ammo is not inherently accurate, but is “good enough” if you are playing. I reloaded a few 750 amax for it, not lot enough to really get a feel for how it would do. Most of my game time was 600 yards or less as well. This was at Thunder Valley before he quit letting 50 be shot there and all the targets were square clays, I wanna say they were 6 plus inches at least, maybe larger.

- heavy and awkward to lug around
-kinda pricey to shoot(even reloading for it)
-lots of places have stopped allowing them to be shot cause it destroys the targets
-it’s loud

BUT
- it’s fun as hell
- it always draws a crowd if your out in public
- it’s fun as hell

29 inch fluted barrel version cause that’s what they had in stock to buy that day. Originally had a legacy US Optics ST10, but changed to a NF before I sold it

I guess I am going to slam man targets at 1k to 2k with factory ammo so maybe 1 moa is my hope. I have blm land and my own targets so that is not an issue. For idiots sake I may hunt with it 1 time, got a slot you must sit in a hill and shoot bears long range. I have a custom 338lm but like you said kind of want a fun stupid rifle I guess.
