Budget is $2000. Will practice on private property with 1100 yds being max distance. Not gonna compete. I have an incomplete list:
Zermatt origin
Barrel: bartlein, kreiger, pva?
Krg bravo
Muzzle?
Tt special

I want to buy or build an LMT quad but unfortunately, I’m in IL. Might as well get started with this. Thoughts?

A friend of mine suggested that I get a b-14 or a tikka and start from there. I’ve only shot an LPR three times at 600 yds and under. Groups weren’t horrible but you could tell that I’m new to the game.

I prefer a custom action over factory personally. Better options for the 700 platform vs tikka though it is growing fast. As for barrel, you won’t go wrong with any top manufacturers and make sure you get a good gunsmith or reputable prefit. I like CRB, ks arms and bartlein barrels personally but there’s lots of great barrels. The bravo is an excellent stock/chassis for the price, muzzle brake in partial to spearhead 5 port junction brake, and I like the tt diamond the best. Good luck with the build

Many ways to skin this cat, but the Origin in a KRG Bravo with a TT trigger is a common route with proven results.

A lot of gunsmiths cut Origin prefits. I'd simply suggest you find one with a combination of good reputation and the barrel blank that you want in stock.

Sounds like a good list to me on the origin build. A proof stainless barrel will save a little on barrel if you need to cut cost some more. Sorry about being in Illinois cross the river into MO and be free. I also think the Seekins havak rifles are a good buy I think they’re updating their stocks in 2025 probably announced at shot show.

Solid build list!

I have had good luck with Proof prefits for my Origins as well as the ones you mentioned. Save some $ that route

Other option is too look in the PX here.
Saw a Seekins Havak Hit for a solid price in your budget the other day.

I would also say go 6.5 creed or 260 if you havent decided on caliber.
Good benefit of high BC bullets and good barrel life.

I love me a .308 too and the other 2 are just easier at distance.

Hard to do an origin and good barrel and chassis and trigger under 2k, 2.5 is more realistic.
Let’s say 900action+400 chassis+600barrel+250 trigger=2150 and those are some decent prices unused, not normal.
For 2k the seekins hit looks nice.

What kind of rep does Criterion barrels have on the hide? I don't see people talk about them much but to me they always seemed like a solid option for a "budget" build. You can get a custom one spun up from NSS for like $470 (including cerokote and muzzle threads). It's what I paired my Solus obsidian action with for my first build that I'm in the middle of currently. Now I just need to wait like 5 months for the barrel lol

They don’t have one (representative that is, reputation is fine). Used to be talked about a lot, I had a handful of em.
Now with custom actions that accept shouldered prefits the ocean got lots bigger. Rem700 and savages aren’t the big sharks in the space anymore.

Yeah that makes sense, thanks. No wonder you can get a full custom for < $500.

Now that I know more about shouldered prefits I will likely get a Brux or something from Bugholes or PVA for my next barrel (I still need to get a barrel vice but I already have an action wrench).

I don't know know how closely you've been watching the PX, but folks are broke here at Christmas. You can snatch a nice well built custom rifle with a low round count for 30-40% less than the parts cost. If I was in the market, this is the time. Just make sure you're watching closely, and be ready to buy as soon as you see the deal you want. The best ones don't last more than a few minutes.

I came here to say this as well.

Good part list, but it will take about $2500 to get there unless you can source some great deals.

Though for a quality pre-fit barrel, it's going to be more in the range of $750-900.

Your $2,500 number is pretty much dead on. I just did a bunch of black Friday spending on a new build and it came out to $2,250 and $3,100 with glass and rings (Ares UHD with MDT rings). I took the buy once cry once approach with mostly mid tier gear.

I initially was very close to buying a bergara wilderness sierra but at the last moment decided to take advantage of some black friday deals and go full custom. I also had to buy tools, action wrench, mags, etc..

Buying used on the px you save on shipping and tax usually. I have bought almost all my stocks used off the px you can save hundreds of dollars. Actions usually hold there value on the px so deals are usually rare. You can also find decent deals on barrels from guys who chase the newest greatest cartridge you take more of risk but I would say most people are pretty honest on here. I would stick to a non barrel burner like 6.5cm if buying used. What ever round count they tell you I automatically assume it has another 100-200 rounds on it just to be on safe side.
