Considering buying this one, my main concern is I understabnd some earlier 357 SIG platforms were essentially .40 platform with a .357 SIG barrel added after the fact. Apparantly in some cases this has resulted in premature wear to a system designed for the lower .40 pressures. I'nm a big fan of Beretta pistols, but I wonder why this was the only .357 sig Beretta ever made and, and they no longer make it, or even chamber any .357 SIG pistols. Leastwise far as I know. Any input appreciated.

Re: Beretta Cougar in .357 SIG

He he he.. I'm not going to be much help, but perhaps a bump will get things going. I had a Cougar 8357 about three years ago, sold it after the first trip to the range. The trigger was surprisingly heavy and inconsistent. I've two 92FSs (9mm), a 96 (.40) and my wife shoots a .32 Tomcat. I love Beretta, perhaps I had a lemon, but I can't recommend the 8357 because of my experience. I hope you get a chance to shoot the one you're looking at if possible.

Cheers.

Re: Beretta Cougar in .357 SIG

Around 2002 I was involved in an evaluation of .40 / 357. pistols that included the Beretta Cougar, Smiths, Glocks, Sigs and HK's. Nobody involved in the evaluation had any love for the Cougar. Design and performance were lacking in comparison to the others listed and the ergonomics were marginal as I remember it.

Sorry, but that was my experience.

Re: Beretta Cougar in .357 SIG

Thanks very much, I appreciate the comebacks. I'm dead set on acquiring a 357 SIG. Beretta most certainly makes some of the finest pistols in the world, but I'm concerned perhaps on this one they may have screwed the pooch. Maybe I should be looking at a SIG or a HK...I wonder if they make a USP in 357 SIG.
