Range Report Berger Loaded Ammo

Has anyone shot the Berger match ammo in 308, 260 or 6.5CM? How do they compare to Prime, Hornady or Federal match ammo? The 140gr hybrid targets are priced about $25-26/20 so $1.30/per and supposedly use Lapua brass. Sounds too good to be true. Just the brass and the bullet alone costs more than $1.30/per.

It's time for me to buy 260brass so I'm thinking about getting 10 boxes of this ammo for $260 instead of paying $200 for brass and another $80-90 for bullets (nm primers/powder/time spent to load). Even if my barrel hates the ammo it will be good for practice and I will still have 200pc of once fired lapua brass.

I'm thinking about trying out some of their 260 ammo myself. Where are you seeing it for 25-26/20. Cheapest I see is around $32 a box.

I just picked up the last 4 boxes of 6.5 Creedmoor 140 hybrid Berger ammo that Bruno's had in stock. It indeed comes with Lapua brass, small primers, and supposedly Vihtavuori powder, since they are all owned by the same company. Velocity on the box says 2850 fps, so if it actually shoots well and is close to that velocity, it's going to be hard to beat for the price.

i shot a box of 140g 6.5c and picked up 5 more for a match this weekend.

26" barrel - MV avg: 2812fps ES: 31fps SD: 13.0 100y group size: 0.45"

70 fps faster than the factory 140g ELDMs slighty better groupings and ES and SD

Went to the farm yesterday to re-zero after messing with my rings. I shot three times. brought it down .1 and left .1 and shot one more (not pictured). here is a picture of the 3 shot group before I zero'd. this is the Berger 140g 6.5c loaded ammo.

I picked some of this up a few weeks ago. Running 6.5creed, hawk hill 26" mtu, 420rnds thru. Mv off MS was 2828, Sd of 9.4. Put the CDM in my Kestrel and ran from 300 to 1100. CDM was spot on all the way out.
Lapua brass ,SRP, Berger hybrid 140 for 26.50 per 20 rnds. Hard to even handload for that price. Used them in a club match a few days later. Absolutely spot on every stage.
Excellent ammunition. My only concern is in my padt experience with handloaded hybrids as the throat wore they became inconsistent at all distances.
Returned to 140 ELDs and never had that problem. This was observed over the life of 3 barrels. Other than that, imo these are fantastic performers.

I should have said roughly, i remember it was about that. For sure under 27.00 because the second 140rnds i pucked up where 27.89 from grafs.com.
The 26.50ish was ftom hunts long range.
I use ammoseek.com a lot and found it thru them. Sadly, the the price ive seen lately is 29 to 30.00. Brownells, Sinclair, and Natchezss are the highest ones.
I constantly check ammoseek. Sometimes the prices are dropped for a very short time period. Just got lucky...

Shot the 135 Classic Hunter load today. Chrono’d 2720 out of a new Bartlein 20” barrel.

Glad I bought 2 cases, I don’t think I need to reload...

First 3 shots on the right, next 3 on the left. 100 yards.

A year after your original post, but yesterday at Quantico I shot some current production Berger/Lapus 140s and 136s, and the original Norma/Prime 130s. AI/AX with a 24" Proof carbon fiber barrel in 260R. 2/3rds IPSC steel at 1,000. Exceptionally calm day to start, then winds at 8-12mph and swirling.

This is when it was exceptionally calm and no mirage. Both with center holds, Berger 140s in the shoulder/neck and the Prime across the belly. The Bergers were averaging 2754fps with a spread of 35fps and a SD of 11fps. The Prime averaged 2865fps with a spread of 48fps and a SD of 17fps.

This is the Berger 136gr Lapua Scenar-L. I had a good group for the first six shots and then the wind started swirling leading to two shoulder hits (left and right) and two misses. The 136s were moving at 2833fps with a spread of 30fps and a SD of 7fps.

While I'm now reloading for this barrel, these Bergers (and the FGMM 142 SMK) just shoot well for factory. The price is dropping and you get Lapua brass to boot.

I think the 6.5 Creedmoor at both bullet weights is nothing short of phenomenal ammunition. Nothing else comes close other than PRIME (new or old).

I get jaw dropping results using the Berger 130 grain OTM

Just got some .260 with 130 OTM's. I pulled 3 bullets just to snoop. Powder all 3 weighted 42.54gn. Pretty impressed! Not a bad deal with Lapua brass fire forming to 260AI.

They had Berger 338 LM with 300 grain OTM for $83...great deal. Even with shipping added it was less than $89 per box which is cheaper than anyone else on Ammoseek

Just saw this thread pop up again. The 6.5 ammo game me an SD of 7 over 10 rounds and routinely shot in the .3's. Shot a couple matches with it and was hitting 3" plates at 505 yards in one of the matches. It is very impressive for factory ammo.

I tried some 6mm creedmore with 105 hybrids. Yes it did have lapua SR primer brass. When I checked the BTO compared to other 105 hybrids I have I would be jumping these .130. Shot 2 groups of 5 over magneto speed. avg velocity 2918 FPS. 1) group had a SD of 17 ES 48. 1) group had SD 9 ES 20. I then tried to see how they group at a 100yrds. My best group was just under 1moa. I would have 2 or 3 shot clusters but they would be an inch apart. May be my barrel just doesn't like them IDK. But I would recommend trying some before you buy a whole lot. I was hoping to use these then have the brass to reload. I had been getting good results with my hand loads using 105 hybrids at 3091 FPS with a ES 6 SD 2.4. Groups were about .25 at a 100 yards.

Zeroed a new 6.5 creed barrel and shot a couple groups at 100. All sub 1/2 moa. Ran it out to 1000 yesterday and shot a ridiculous 5 shot group. Hard to believe that factory ammo can be this good. I’m definitely shooting all the club matches with it this year.

I wish they would offer a lighter bullet for 338 than the 300 grain OTM...

I know heavy is the bees knees but not so much for me. I think a high quality 250 rain bullet that is zippy would be a great offering. The 300 is too big and slow for this caliber IMHO.

I know they offer the Lapua 250 scenar but that drives the cost up by $20 per box which is crazy

I just browsed this thread and think now that $33-34 a box is an absolute steal. I just did a search for Berger match ammo and it seems like mid $40 is the norm along with some asshole companies (cough cough Midway cough) who are gouging at $55 a box. I'd kill for 2018 prices now.

Last fall/winter blue collar had the 6.5 creed 130 ar hybrid for $33.50/box. Stuff shot so well in my rifle I stocked up. Now have plenty of ammo and brass to last the life of 2-3 barrels. Makes deciding the question of “what should I build next“ pretty simple, in this market.

Berger 6.5 CM 140 gr hybrid target loaded ammo is rarer than hen's teeth....seems rarer than, for example, Hndy ELD-M 140 gr which are very hard to find but do pop up at least once in a while. Haven't seen any loaded Berger Hybrid ammo for sale on a retail site in a good while, I believe

I really weighing whether to buy some loaded Berger Ammo just to get the Lapua brass. I don't think it's economical to buy loaded ammo at these prices just for the brass. But it might be nice to shoot some initially to check function of the gun and get some load starting points of amm actually in your gun. But at $2.50 and up a round, that makes each trigger pull a flinch watching the dollars go down range that fast.

even in 2020 there was a lot of berger 6.5/260 loaded ammo to be had under $30 a box

Nice, i was glad i got in with a couple cases on the prime group buy when it was reasonable ($280 a case). Will probably only reload 6.5 from now on...
