This should make a good introductory post. I'm currently working full time in a gun shop down here in the deserts of SoCal. My boss is a gunsmith of 40 years, and is teaching me the trade. Well, at least enough to have a good start in a real school for the trade after I graduate high school. (Private school). For now I'm just the AR builder and go-to guy for customers that have questions on the platform.

This is my personal 700 in .223, and we used it as my first project gun (as my budget would allow). It started out as an old school 24" varmint in a beautiful wood stock and gloss blue finish, then we turned it into this.

Cut and re-crowned the barrel, bedded new B&C stock, re-blued the metal in a matte finish, trigger job down to roughly 1.5bs, bolt knob, and new optics. Knob was created by a machinist friend. I did everything except what involved the lathe/mill. Not quite to that point yet.

So, the last thing I need for this beauty is a detachable magazine. I could have googled it, but I figured I'd use it as an excuse to introduce myself!

Welcome. If your stock can be inletted for a Badger Ordnance or APA bottom metal, then you can use the Accuracy International 223 mag. I use them, and like them. I'm sure there are other options, and if you give other a little time, they will share those with you. Nice looking rifle.

I like the APA design with the non-protruding magazine release. Thank you for the fast reply. Just want to verify this is the one you are referring to before I jump on it.

Again, thank you both for the compliments.

Welcome to the site. Great folks on here who will help you as much as possible.

I second the recommendation for Badger and APA in conjunction with AI 10-round magazines. I also like the Stiller, Seekins and Surgeon bottom metals. All will work fine. All these are top quality. All work with the AI magazines.

Best of luck.

Never knew Seekins made bottom metal. As a proud owner of two of their lowers, I've got to go with Seekins. Thank you.

I've also got some other bases covered as well...

Just picked up another Seekins lower yesterday after "you know what" happened. This one will be a longer range build. Will definitely use this place to help me decide caliber.

The PTG bottom metal with AI .223 mag worked well for me.</div></div>

This, I did the inletting myself and it worked great with the supplied pillar length on my 223 and 260.
