"Gunsmith Kinks" from Brownells. There are several editions of this and some of the information did not serve me. But it is an interesting read nonetheless.
I have never flicked a switch on a lathe, so the above books may be too basic for you, but I enjoyed them.

Thanks David, these are probably more my speed for now.
The hide def has more than enough info, but a book can be taken outside, on a train, in the bathroom etc
