Im looking to get myself a boresight tool. What are the best ones out there to use. Ive seen them range from $30-$300, Not really looking to spend too much on one. Thanks in advance for any advice.

IF, i mean IF you are deadset on one. I would look at the magnetic ones that sit perpendicular to the bore. I wouldn't want to shove something down my bore.
I just remove the bolt and look down the barrel and get it centered on the paper and then move the scope.

uh, howzabout forgetting a boresighter and mechanically zeroing your stuff, then starting with a 25M zero to get on paper, then moving to 100M. JBM will give you your dope to get a 25M zero and clicks to 100 within 3 clicks, then just zero at 100M or 300M or whatever and slip your scales back to zero

Easily done with an AR, cannot be done feasibly with an M1a.

I tried the ones in the form of a cartridge that go in the chamber and didn't have much luck. I picked up this one from Sportsmans Guide (http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/sightmark-magnetic-universal-boresighter.aspx?a=483871). For $40, it puts me close enough on paper that I can quickly dial the impacts in w/o wasting lots of money on ammo. ASSUMING the face of your muzzle is true, this seems to work great. I especially like it because it will work on mil weapons with flashhiders and muzzle brakes where the ones that insert into the bore from the muzzle don't always cooperate. This is a relatively cheap fix that has given me good results so far.

I can't say it's the best as i haven't tried too many different bore sight tools before, but i have the Leuopold Zero Point Magnetic Boresighter and it has worked pretty good for me.
I've probably used it on 10 different rifles since i've had it (got it free with a scope i bought a while ago) and it has always been within 6" or better at 100 yards first shot.
I can't say it's the best as i haven't tried too many different bore sight tools before, but i have the Leuopold Zero Point Magnetic Boresighter and it has worked pretty good for me.
I've probably used it on 10 different rifles since i've had it (got it free with a scope i bought a while ago) and it has always been within 6" or better at 100 yards first shot.

I have and used the magnetic Leupold, magnetic USO, a cheap Bushnell, and the Sweany, Site-a Line model. By far the best results are with the Sweany. It's not cheap and you have to buy seperate spuds for each caliber, but I've had excellent results with it.
I recommend the model with the " X " crosshairs( which I have).
It is made by the "Alley Supply Company". You may purchase it from Brownells or order directly from the company. It's about 80 or 90 dollars. I also recommend using the longer spuds for your caliber if available. Give them a call (775 782 3800). I highly recommend it.

I like a target placed at 10 yards....zero....place at 50 yards...zero and done. Boresighter= waste of $

I'll be using this method as well for my trainer.

the target at 50 yards and move it back to 100 is what i do sometimes...or remove the bolt and sight an object through the barrel and then align the crosshairs to that same object.....

At the ranges I haunt, the 25 and 50 yard target holders are in a different area than the 100y holders. So, shooting targets at increasing ranges (25, 50, 100) means picking up and moving each time.
Not a big deal if all you're doing that day is sighting in that one rifle, but for me that is rarely the case.
I use a loopy magnetic zero point, it gets me on a caldwell target @ 100y every time. I shoot one, adjust, shoot 3, and make final adjustments, most times shoot 3 more to verify.
If I'm in a hurry..4 shots and done. It's worth it to me.
