Best Grain Bullet for 300 Win mag, shooting 1000+ yards

I have been running the new Berger 208Hybrid and they are very good. Have shot out to 1500 so far with great results. I also shoot the 215Hybrids.

@GIXXER2000 How did the BC's between the two stack up , and ballistics at distance. Not sure of the difference in bearing surface between these two projectiles, but assume that they would perform similarly? I purchased a box of the 208's and have them loaded but have not had the opportunity to try them out due to a shoulder injury.

They both shot very good and the slightly higher BC of the 215 i think was off set be the faster speed of the 208. I think the 215 will carry better passed 1500 out to 2000. The 208 are very long and just fit in my mag, hell they are almost as long as my 338lm.

Berger 215s get my vote. The 230s need more ass like from a norma/RUM.

For a 1:10twist, hard to beat the berger 215 hybrids. I also love the Badlands projectiles. Jason and George over at badlands seem to be good dudes and I've actually worked with them recently on some projects and they are always super helpful. I run coated 265icbm-2 solids in my 33xc and they are stupid accurate. A 265gr projectile with a 434g7 at 3370fps is quite potent. I recently sold my 300wm that I ran in competition and I had a 28" 1:8 tube on it and it absolutely hammered out to 2k with the 230atips that I pushed at 3025fps. It was definitely a hotter load, but the gun loved it. I had another node at 2940fps that I probably could of gone with, but I use to be addicted to speed, as long as it was still consistent and accurate. So I guess I got distracted, but anything berger produces and anything badlands produces are probably excellent choices as long as you have the twist for them. Warner 198gr flatlines are also awesome, but you need a fast twist. I plan on trying out some of those 241gr Seneca solids from Josh once I get my 300rum rebarreled. I'll be posting a lot of comparison videos starting later in the year once we open our private range I know @THEIS has already talked about coming out!

Need building spot that is easily accessible to fuel trucks so we can run building off solar/generator because the LIDAR windcube needs POWER.

I'm also a fan of the Berger Hybrid 215's, I run them on top of 76.6 H1000 and get 2950 out of my 28" tube, federal 210 primers to get them on their way. This load seems to work well in every .300 win mag I've shot them in. Always work up starting with a lower charge in your rifle.

Sounds great, but I have a commitment for the next 13 years that limits me to the Mid Atlantic region. Maybe a part time powder monkey?

I finally got to work with the nosler 210gr rdf's last weekend. Found a load my rifle (rpr gen 3, 26in, 1-9) likes. shooting sub-moa nowbut still need to work on seating depth.

This load is a bit on the warm side. About .3grs from blowing the primer pockets. I've shot these up to 77.8grs. Excellent group (.455"x.155"), but primer pockets were one and done. I think with optimal seating depth, the 76.2 gr load will equal the accuracy without junking the brass.

I’ve got a buddy who runs the 225ELD-M’s with Retumbo his rifle has hit a mile more times than I can count. That bullet works great.

Berger Bullets is top notch and Bob was really nice over the phone when I contacted them. They sent me 5 samples of each of there 215 HT and 220 LRHT bullets so I could check the depth of the ogive to the land spacing on the 300 WM barrel I am getting. I also got there load data for the powders that I have.

So I’m not seeing anyone talking about the mag box. I see some OALs posted up and other talking about long throats. Question for the masses, are you mag loading and still getting these 2950+ MVs?

I have shot 185jugs, 200 BHs. 215BH, 230BHs, 230 B OTMs, 190 SMK, 210SMKs and 220 SMKs. Every single one did fine to 1k. Shit a 168 SMK would be a laser to 1k from a 300WM.

The 215 BH, 230OTMs and 220SMKs do really well in wind. The “issue” I had with the 215s is I need to jump them .070” to fit the mag and actually load. Though it didn’t hurt them at all, the MV increase over the 230OTM wasn’t there and I had no way to chase the throat. The 220SMKs and 230 OTMs both did well enough and gave me as much or more case capacity and room to chase the throat in the mag and still stay relatively close. The OTMs shot better so that’s what I ran with.

I’ve never shot monos, and have no desire to pay more per bullet than what a damn Berger costs. I’m sure for ELD guys the monos make sense but to 1200y I’m not seeing a need. This is why I never pursued the 210SMK. They are incredibly expensive compared to similar weight bullets so what’s the point?

FWIW, my 300wms are just fun rifles but the one I shoot most ( 700/300 clone~ish) is a pleasure to shoot with a 30-P1 off an old Harris. 230 OTM over 73.8gr Retumno w/ 9 1/2M in old Win brass or once fired ADG is the ticket. Slower at 2875fps but plenty accurate to 1k and decent to 1250y if I pay attention to the wind. That 1/2 IPSC is a motherfucker some days…

I am going to have to say yes for most of them since a fair amount of internal and box magazines can handle a max COAL of 3.600. And for others, like my self, can handle a COAL 3.740 with a CIP length detachable magazine.

If you are using an internal box magazine that limits your COAL to 3.500 or less, I would look to see if your action can use the 3.715 or CIP 3.850 detachable magazines. The CIP 3.850 magazines are the better of the two since it will let you move to 300 PRC down the road if you whish too, or allow you to run the really long monolithic bullets.

I have a Ruger precision 300 win mag I load Sierra match King 200 grain bullets with 70 grains of reloader 17. But if you Want Factory ammo I'd go with Hornady e l d x 200 grain bullets

Been shooting 208ELDM ELR and finally came upon a batch of 215 Berger Hybrids. Has anyone experience with loading each of these bullets, side-by-side charge weight comparisons? Would like a short load development transition to the Hybrids with the listed powders. Current 23.5" barrel Bullet...
