Best hunting rifle under $750

I have a 270 vangard that is 20 years old. It replaced a M70 270 featherweight that was ruined in a fire. It still shoots box ammo 3/4 moa or better. Handloads 60grns H4831 and any 130grn bullet is 1/2 moa. Sierria 130gmk are .2-.3 for 5 shots. I have 140 and 150 loads with IMR 4955 and RL26 that breathe new life and range into this classic. A .520bc 140 @ 3160 is going to give a better mbr for a hunting rifle than a .620 @ 2800fps.
Your Dad had a weatherby because of it's reputation. A stainless Vangard sub MOA in either would be a great Xmas present.

[sarcasm]But they don't have AICS mags and adjustable everything chassis[/sarcasm]

The only tacticool feature that I find beneficial to hunting is a threaded barrel for running a can. Not many hunting rifles come that way unfortunately and most that do have big fat barrels. This is actually one thing very nice about the new Montanas but unfortunately that rifle is out of the OP's budget and he may not even care about a can.

You certainly don't need to lug around a big heavy chassis or have a DBM with a 10 round mag hanging down to hunt bambi. I've never heard of deer mounting a counter attack on a hunter.

Winchester XPR is also a solid budget choice. I would put it ahead of anything made by Savage, Ruger, and Remington in its price range and on par with Howa's 1500.

With the $100 rebate going on, you can get one for less than $400.

I bought a Tikka T3x lite the same time as a buddy bought a Kimber 84 hunter.

Overall I like the Kimber more. Accuracy was the same, Kimber was lighter, Tikka bolt was “slicker” but that was balanced by the heavier 70 degree lift, which I did not like on a 7lb gun. Both have Tupperware stocks but the Kimber fits better.

I agree with the above that I prefer a CRF and mechanical ejector for a hunting gun. Absolutely necessary? No, but still a preference.

I ended up selling the Tikka and went another route.

Bergara B-14 Ridge in 6.5 Creedmoor $693 at CheaperThanDirt online to your dealer, or local shop if in Fort Worth, TX. Fiberglass reinforced polymer stock with solid epoxy pillars permanently molded into place, soft touch coating gives the stock soft, tacky feel that is easy to grip even in harsh weather. . #5 Taper, 24" barrel, 1:8 twist, threaded for suppressor, or muzzle brake with thread protector, accepts Remington 700 aftermarket options. Weight 7.9Lbs. . Accurate out of the box.

I bought the Tikka T3 SL in 223, 6.5 Creed and 30-06. They are shoot really well. Hands down the best shooting hunting rifles I’ve ever had/seen. The creed just plain shoots. I haven’t shot a load over 1” yet. Mine wears a DNZ 1pc 30mm Mount with a 3-15 SS on it. It’s very light!

You could do worse than a Ruger American. They ain't pretty, and definitely....utilitarian, but they are pretty accurate, and can be had for a song when on sale (like $400 and some change). It ain't a Tikka, and damned sure isn't a Kimber, but they go bang every time.

I’ll always be a Rem 700 guy. Check out Gunbroker and Guns America. You’ll find quite a few great rifles used for under your price range that would be above your cap if purchased new.

Personally, I wouldn’t mind having a 20” Barreled Rem 700 AAC-SD in a 6.5 Creedmoor for a deer rifle.

Hell, I’ve seem a couple on here, that would make a good hunting rifle and under your $750 cap.

I don't think it qualifies as best, but that said, if the deer are within a couple hundred yards, I sure was fond of a 30-30 lever action back when I hunted deer. The marlin is dirt cheap, works well, short barrel, easy to navigate in brush. If you pick one up used, you could likely use it for years and sell it for what you paid, a consideration. If I wanted to reach out to 250 or more yards, it would not be a consideration for me, but I loved that gun when hunting in brushy conditions in Missouri years ago, with no scope it was very easy to handle for me a small guy.

Anyone know if sportsmanswarehouse will ship to an FFL I don't have one in KS
Yes they will. If your in north east Kansas PM me and I can recommend some people.
ETA- Win M70 is my go to hunting rig. I've had Howas, Remmys, Salvages, Tikkas, Rugers M77s, my brother has a American and I like my M70s. Nothing wrong with any of em(except savages that spit extractors). Just pick what you like and rock on. The less shot you bolt on a hunting rifle the better IMO.

No offense, but unless things have changed dramatically in the last 20 years, Kimber 84's were known to be hit or miss in the accuracy department. They ALWAYS looked very nice, but on paper their accuracy was, well...I'd never fork money over for one. And yes, this is from seeing more than one have issues (like 6 or 7 of them). I have seen a couple that shot lights out (like scary accurate; in the .2's), but the inconsistency would leave me very leery of buying one.

Again, things may have changed (again) in the past 20-15 years, so correct me if I'm wrong. That company has gone through so many owners in the past, that I don't even know who has it now.
