Rifle Scopes Best scope for a M-4

Re: Best scope for a M-4

Look at one of those 1-4x optics. There are the new Super Sniper, the Vortex's, the Trijicons, and other compact choices. I usually like my M4 scopes to be 11" or shorter to maintain the agile nature of the carbine.

Re: Best scope for a M-4

Though I think you'd be well represented by a 1-4 optic, and lord knows they're the hot ticket right now, I have some reservations about your claimed use."Tin cans and varmints out to 200 yds"......don't get me wrong, it can be and is done but those are some small targets at 200 with a 4x unless you have young/great eyes.
Jus' sayin'....

Re: Best scope for a M-4

I think what you have listed is more than good enough to use for your intended purposes. 1 x 4 is good but not all that good for shooting tin cans at 200 or paper shooting. It can be done but not all that effective while a 2.5 x 10 give you some flexibility to do what you want and shoot paper too.

Re: Best scope for a M-4

For varmint shooting at that distance you will need something with more magnification. Take a look at the Nikon M-223 3-12x42mm. That will give you enough magnification for the longer shots and will still allow a decent FOV at 3x for the closer shots.

Re: Best scope for a M-4

The 1-4 is not my first choice for a varmint scope but then again the M4 is not my choice for a varmint rifle. Having said that, you don't know what they will do until you try. The photos below are targets shot by a Colt M4 using a SWFA SS 1-4X24 HD scope. Top is a flukishly small group at 500 yards followed by a close up of the group. The next was fired at 600 yards and the last at 700 yards. If that seems to not fit the bill I'd suggest looking at the Vortex Viper 2-7 that SWFA has on sale for about $150.00. Good luck

Re: Best scope for a M-4

Good Shootin' Tex! Your Colt sure shoots much better than the last one I owned.

I ran one of the Leupold Mark AR 1.5-4 for a while. Wanted a Trijicon TR24G, but couldn't pony up for it at the time.

The Leupold has been subsequently pulled to put on my wife's AR, but I have to say, it's a darn good bit of kit for the money, and continues to perform splendidly.

Cheers... Jim

Re: Best scope for a M-4

I vote for a ACOG. Based on the performance of a friends. We might have gotten lucky though because it's almost like the load he is shooting coincides with the ballistic reticle. He's shooting DRS 55gr SP, and we've hit can size targets, and geese out to 350yds. He got pretty close to hitting a goose @ 600 this past weekend. Not having a wind meter, and couldn't get a ranging on the range finder he put it on the 600 hash mark and it hit about half a foot from it. Like i said somehow i feel like we've gotten lucky but the reticle is dead on. I don't typically care fore ballistic reticles but in his case, his works pretty well.

Re: Best scope for a M-4

For an M4 I would recommend a 1-4x variable or a scope like the ACOG. But for the type of shooting you’re talking about "cans and varmints out to 200 yds" I would say a 2-10x type of scope would do the job very nicely. I’m not a fan of FFP scopes under 10x because the RET can be hard to see. If you would like a 1-4x scope the Vortex PST 1-4x are really nice and we have a few in stock with a MIL RET and MIL Turrets.
If we can be of help feel free to ask.
