<span style="font-family: 'Comic Sans MS'"><span style="color: #000099">I got one for yeah...how many of you remember the old popular <span style="font-weight: bold">Miami Vice </span>series???

There was one episode where they were doing a buy in a seedy motel on the Miami strip with a guy who was a drug rip-off killer(can't recall the full storyline) they set up the small room with the kitchen table in front of the luvered kitchen window with the horzontial luvers open you can hear the traffic and the hiss of the sea breeze outside etc. The guy knocks at the door and the UC cop lets him in and then proceeds him to the table where they have some booze and glasses, and sits with back to the window. Killer comes in to do the deal and sits down across the table thus facing the window. UC cop shows the guy a sample of the haul and they test it and of course it comes up 100% pure--good stuff!! The killer smiles and nods then lifts his brief case up to the table and opens it to pull out the $$ to buy the dope (so you think...) but his MO was he always carried a brief case with some $$ in it and a subgun to make the rip-off so Miami-Dade Police were prepared....and across the narrow side street running along the building was another seedy motel/hotel that they had selected a room in on the same floor that faced the room the buy would happen in. In that room across the way, with that louvered window open sat a SWAT Sniper in full ragatta, radio, headset-mic, binos, with a bolt gun in 308 resting on its bipod legs, and he is glassing across the street/alley into the buy room and over the UC cops shoulder seated there, which of course you see also through the snipers optic (pretty cool). When the dude opens his case and brandishes the Mac 11 subgun to do the rip-off all you hear is him begin to shout and shift in the seat and then a loud THUD as (and my memory fades a bit) the round either drilled him through the lid of the briefcase and into his head or chest, or just hits him and not the lid. He's thrust backwards by the impact and hits the fridge behind him and crumples to the floor in a dramatic hollywood fashion and the UC gently turns around and looks over his should some and the same instant they cut to the sniper who makes an announcement on the radio that he's down(?) and lifts his head slightly off the optic. It all happened in a flash but unexpectedly and quite startlingly COOL!!</span></span>

Re: Best Sniper Scene on TV or Movie

Jan Michael Vincent and Michael Cord in Police story, and old 70's anthology police program. JMV is a newbie on the SWAT team, and Cord is the hot-shot sniper.
They talk a lot about the ethos, and Cord does some bragging about hunting white wing doves with a pistol, but JMV has to take the critical shot when the pinch comes and pulls it off. He seems to suffer a bit for it, since he never seems sure he is sniper material.
Only saw it once, but it impressed me for 70's TV.
Cord points to the back of his own head just behind the ear, and tells JMH, "Right here.... Gotta be."

Re: Best Sniper Scene on TV or Movie

Most movie snipery stuff I have no use for... But while eating up the miles on a bike trip I did recall this one...

If anyone ever saw "The November Men"... it had a great scene.

Movie never made it into theaters. Saw it by accident at the Houston Film Festival c. 1993 when I was living down there. Went to see one movie, it was full, saw this and was glad I did. It's true indy and has lots of low budget quirks. But the plot twists and writing make it an incredible flick.

No spoilers here. But I will say that the USSS was genuinely PISSED at this movie production and at the director for some things that they did during the filming and which directly involved GHW Bush.

The sniper scene was also my introduction to the .50 BMG as a SWS... that intro alone makes the movie worth buying (if you can find a copy.) Maybe it's online somewhere for streaming...

Cheers,

Sirhr

^^^^ That movie is why I hate almost anything that comes out of hollywood and tries to explain precision shooting.

Boowah hahahah ha hah ah. ahem.

Re: Best Sniper Scene on TV or Movie

The Act of Valor scene where they snipe the sentry on the dock and the (mostly underwater) Seals catch him so he doesn't make a loud splash falling into the water was pretty cool

Best scene in the whole movie.

You could even see him load the bipod, made me so happy.

Re: Best Sniper Scene on TV or Movie

I can tell you want wasn't anywhere close to the "best" scene:

Season finale of Grey's Anatomy a couple years ago (compelled to watch by the wife). Angry widower going through the hospital, killing nurses and doctors.

SWAT sniper sets up inside the hospital and has a shot on the shooter from what looks to be across a room, certainly no more than 50yd away...and WOUNDS HIM. More like "winged" him, really.

I literally SCREAMED at the TV, while my wife is looking at me with a "WTF" look on her face.

Re: Best Sniper Scene on TV or Movie

Most any scene from "Quigley Down Under" in which Tom Selleck is shooting - I loved it when he shoots the guys off the fleeing wagon. LOL!

Re: Best Sniper Scene on TV or Movie

In reference to the movie "Navy Seals" when the seal team refers to Charlie sheen as "God" haha that was a cool scene.

Also there was a few good moments in mark wallburgs movie "shooter." the incredibly annoying dude who played Casey jones in ninja turtles . Got his thumb blown off at the end.. That was cool! Can't think of his name but his character made me want to blow his thumb off.. Wait.. The whole opening scene if that movie was awesome as well.

And last but not least... The last scene of the good the bad and the ugly when Clint Eastwood shoots the "uglys" hanging rope open sights at about 600 hundred!! On horse back.. Open handed.. Smoking a cigar.. And when he hits the ground.. Ugly screams blondieeeee u know what you are.. Your a dirty rotten son of ahhhhhh yeeeeeeaaaaa ahhhhhhhh.. Ahhhhh yeeee ahhhh!! My attempt at the theme song!!

Re: Best Sniper Scene on TV or Movie

Since my other choices have already been named I will go with:

Clear and Present Danger, the training scene where Domingo Chavez sneaks in for the kill on the instructor.

Re: Best Sniper Scene on TV or Movie

Not the best movie, but visually the Barrett shots near the end of Smokin' Aces is pretty cool. Have to agree that Navy Seals had the best call sign for their sniper, however GOD was Bill Paxton not Charlie Sheen.

+1

That was my second favorite part of the movie. The first is when he pistol whips the bartender.

Yep, that one definitely make the record books for me. Easily beats the movie Shooter for sure.

Re: Best Sniper Scene on TV or Movie

I think one of the best is in <span style="font-style: italic">Saving Private Ryan</span> when Pvt. Jackson shoots the German Sniper who shot Pvt. Caparzo.

I still get verklempt when I watch this movie and this scene in particular.

Re: Best Sniper Scene on TV or Movie

Didn't say if it had to be a good guy or bad guy (girl)

The best sniper scene I've seen was in Full Metal Jacket, where the little VC girl had the paltoon pinned down.

She was good.

Re: Best Sniper Scene on TV or Movie

there was a good sniper scene in "tourists" at the end of the movie the order was given to four snipers to take out four targets simultaneously, you see the shoots fired then slow motion on the four targets hits, pretty cool.
cheers.

Re: Best Sniper Scene on TV or Movie

I will never forget the two snipers for Black Hawk down

The Delta operators who opted to go on a suicide mission
so their brother wouldn't die alone
who gave their lives to save Michael Durant

Master Sgt Gary Gordon
and
SFC Randy Shughart

These men were awarded the medal of honor and the first to recieve it since the Vietnam war

Them guys where snipers,
Not sure how it actually happened, but in the movie they dropped their whole combat load,

Here is a short tribute someone made
Shughart, Gordon

Thems must have really really taken a bunch with them

Yep got to be mine. I remember reading their CMH Citations in high school a few years after they were awarded, truely awsome. It brings a tear up.

I guess one of my favorite hollywood scenes would be in Legends of the Fall when Decker sets up with his coffee and Sharps.

Re: Best Sniper Scene on TV or Movie

for every good scene, there are 15 terrible ones.

most good scenes have been mentioned.

I think about the first episode in one of the seasons of NCIS like 3 yrs ago when gibs takes out the hostage interrogator in the basement through the window which was decent, but then he walks in the back door like 1 minute later after he just shot from what seems like 1000yrds or more....he's quick.

Yep. AND then shows up at the office in the same ghillie suit... LOL...like it was just around the corner.

Re: Best Sniper Scene on TV or Movie

By far the best sniper scene on screen was in the Canadian show "Flashpoint" where the Ex-Canadian Special Forces sniper Afghanistan-vet turned SWAT member is on the rooftop with his Rem700 and his scope on upside down! In a different episode, he radioed that he was ready to shoot a dude with the bolt handle still up!

Re: Best Sniper Scene on TV or Movie

Found another interesting movie on netflix, <span style="text-decoration: underline">"The Front Line"</span> it is a Korean War movie and while it is not a sniper flick it does have a bit of North Korean sniper play from a sniper nicknamed two seconds. Overall, decent action and story… dialog… it is subtitled.

Re: Best Sniper Scene on TV or Movie

Although not my "favorite" scene, but I don't think it has been brought up yet. How about the scene in True Grit when Matt Damon takes that long shot with the Sharps rifle.

I SAW THAT! my i was yelling wtf at the screen. wife told me to shut up. the little sniper chic was hot.

Re: Best Sniper Scene on TV or Movie

In Enemy at the Gates the junior russian sniper leaps across an opening and is seen by the german sniper. The senior Russian sniper makes the same leap and takes it through the head. At first I thought it would be an impossible shot but it would be no different than any other mover, just a lot of skill and timing to shoot with the correct lead as soon as you saw movement.

Re: Best Sniper Scene on TV or Movie

Man Hunt staring Walter Pidgeon, taking his shot with his Holland and Holland at Hitler when he is in his hideout in the alps to keep WWII from starting, the beginning scene when he estimates the range, dials 400 on his scope, a practice shot is taken, then a round is loaded, squeeze the trigger then...have to see the movie. A propaganda movie for sure for the times but one of my favs.

Naked City, WWII shooter has a contract and sneaking hiding in the city with his M1, takes his shot then gets tracked until the end when he goes out in a blaze of glory.

Re: Best Sniper Scene on TV or Movie

Does the movie "Wanted" count with Angelina Jolie? How about at the end when he's sitting in his fathers apartment, laid back in a lazy boy, with what looks like a musket and a telescope for his glass. He's probably a few miles away from his target, rifle gets shot and out comes a beautiful, hand carved bullet that opens in mid air and another smaller bullet somehow comes out of the first bullet and goes supersonic killing his target.

Re: Best Sniper Scene on TV or Movie

For me, it has to be the opening scene in Shooter and the one where they duel on the cold mountains.

Another good one is the first encounter in the film, enemy at the gates, Major Konig kills Zaitzev companions right on the head and in the middle of a bombing raid.

Re: Best Sniper Scene on TV or Movie

Missouri boat ride - from the Outlaw Josey Wales movie. MY man Clint shoots a guide rope holding a barge full of Red Legs chasing him. Sends the raft down stream with horses and and fools bailing out. Funny sniper shot - not the serios kind.
