Re: big buck contest...

Smokin - Were you hunting the Missouri by G.F. or from Fred Robinson bridge? I've wanted to hunt the tail end of the Peck with my jet, but haven't had a chance...yet. PGS...wow, got me excited for my Sidney trip over Thanksgiving

Re: big buck contest...

Not much of a story teller guy....My friend Owen and I had been hunting for two days and looking for a really big buck that I had seen the past two years. He is a 30" buck with good mass and a few extra "cheater" points. As the day was winding down we had just enough time to look one last spot over before we headed back to town. We spotted a group of deer with this buck in it. He was busy chasing a hot doe around and didnt pay much attention to us. I told Owen if he wanted him to go ahead and take him. Well he had forgot his buck tag at home that morning. After looking at the buck some more I decided I better shoot him. It was only 60 meters. I shot him with my Sako .220 swift AI, 52gr SMK. It was a clean one shot kill behind the shoulder. He ran about 35 meters. When we got to him to look him over close I realized he was better than I thought.....usually dosent work like that....grin!!

Re: big buck contest...

Well here's my 2009 Texas buck, I don't have an actual score, but he probably won't keep up with some of what you guys will get anyway. He's 21" wide, has 12" G2's, and the browntines are 6" long. Far and away my biggest whitetail. Rough measuring, if the g3 on the left side hadn't been broken, looks like he's go about 140. Anyway, shot him on my dad's place yesterday morning at about 8:15, after the fog lifted.

Field photo, picture taken by my wife (first deer she ever got to see me shoot, she got hers, 6pt, on opening day):

Re: big buck contest...

Shot this the Saturday before last in Fisher County, TX. Five minutes of legal shooting light left. He was facing me straight on and looking right at me. Didn't give me much time. Shot was 100 yards offhand with my .257 Wby pushing an 80gr TTSX at about 3700. You can see the entrance wound in the center of his chest on the first picture. My biggest deer so far...

Re: big buck contest...

Big buck contests are fun if you are competing against deer from the same geographic location, but I would be terribly embarrassed to put my puny Texas and Oklahoma bucks up against some of the midwest bruisers.

Maybe not as big as the Midwest, but we can hold our own here in Texas. Here are mine this season. Both are from low fence taken with 308 175 SMK's.
