Photos "Big" Idaho coyote

can't see the picture, but 2 cents here in PA. it is confirmed that the coyotes have wolf DNA in them, and are rather large and getting bigger.

all the coyote contests going on post january in our state are producing with consistancy 50+ lbers. a study over that few years by the biologists proved the DNA findings by extracting samples and getting them to the lab.

interestingly, game officials back in the mid 70's whole hearted said there are no coyotes in PA, kinda makes me wonder about the claims of there are no mtn lions in PA. anymore, though many have reported them in the wild.

That is a big dog!

One of our hunters poked a 65# coyote with his bow a while back and there is a documented den of cats within 6 miles of my house.
Police have been getting a lot of snagglepuss related calls.

Some of our ranchers had a real problem with coy-dogs out here for a while. Some of those sons-of-bitches were quite large and hunted in packs, like wolves. Plus, they had very little fear of humans due to the domestic-critter branch of the family tree. I haven't seen one for about seven years, but I know there are still some out there. And with wolves now "officially" over on this side of the state, I'm sure we'll be seeing more hybrid song dogs. Gotta' love s target rich environment!

So, was it ever possible to get the Idaho Fish and game to do a DNA test on it?

This is what I'm wondering. If this might be a native wolf from Montana that got pushed out when they reintroduced wolves in Yellowstone Park? Or a hybrid offspring? This does not look like a full blooded wolf like I saw in Minnesota or in Montana back when I lived there. I've been told by a number of ranchers on the west side of Montana when I lived there that they once in a while saw wolves but not for long and they didn't hang around. They were much smaller than the ones that got reintroduced. Most have not seen them since the reintroduction.
