Bipod height/length opinion

Re: Bipod height/length opinion

depends what its for.. i started with a 6-9'' and went to the 9-13'' because when shooting prone at a range i go to the furthest targets were higher up on the mountain so i couldnt get the angle i needed with the 6-9'' but then i went right back to the 6-9'' when i started shooting in national forest. still mostly prone. for me...all around... 6-9'' is my choice.

Re: Bipod height/length opinion

I was like TrooperBrian and also started long, ended up switching all my bipods out to the 6-9" BRM models and an Atlas on my precision rifle. Works much better.

Harris 6-9 swivel with notched legs, add a Pod Lock and your GTG, or step up to a Atlas v8, either is available from Triadtactical.com

This is the perfect setup for me.

Re: Bipod height/length opinion

I like the 9-13 for a very simple reason.
It is easier to get lower than it is to get higher.

My Bi-Pod gets used only when I have to get higher than a tactical pillow under the folded legs of my bipod will allow.
Then use the Bipod to get over vegetation & terrain.
When I need to get higher than that I move to the SLIK mini tripod with cradle.

That's how I run and the logic behind it.
YMMV...

Re: Bipod height/length opinion

Your in east Texas, I have a Atlas and a Harris 6-9 with podlock. I would say get a Atlas and if you need to get higher, buy the leg extensions. You aren't going to be shooting crazy angles where the higher bipod might be useful.

Re: Bipod height/length opinion

East Texas? Highest elevation you will have to account for is a fire ant mound, maybe a fallen pine tree. Shorter is better, can always put the legs onto a pack if it's a really tall fire ant mound. In contrast to Dr Phil, down here it's easier to get taller than lower. Just my $.02.

Re: Bipod height/length opinion

Harris 6-9 here as well. If i need additional elevation in the field, I'll shoot off of my pack. Shooter's Ridge makes a close copy if you're looking to save a few bucks. The VersaPod by Keng's is another favorite, goes on and off the rifle very quickly.

Re: Bipod height/length opinion

I use an Atlas V8, they have it listed as 4.75''-9''.

In general anything UTG is utter chicom crap. Money is better spent elsewhere.

+1. Those are the two best options.

I heart my Phoenix Tactical "5.5 Tac" conversion of the Harris 6-9 Swivel w/ the "blade" feet. I find it much easier to "load" than the stock Harris, and the blade feed can be useful for shooting off barriers, etc. You just pull the legs out to where you want them -- the leg release allows you to push them back in. Weakness, if any, is on smooth concrete (though you could get legs w/ rubber feet from them if you wanted).
