I'm paying close attention to this one - I'm currently running a 6BRA in F-open but wouldn't hesitate to dump my 6XC to run one of these in PRS style comps.
I'm pretty proud of this. Been working on the concept for a couple years. Jim took it and made it a reality. Very grateful for his skill.
Also working on mag extension specific to this mag so no worries there either.
I'd try one for sure, Borden, although not household name in our circles, makes top shelf actions.
I'm curious about it and like the concept, but it's going to have to get everything else right in order to be a success in the PRS market.
Downsides... pinned lug, proprietary mags, no AW cut option, no coating on the action, assuming not going to be in the "prefit barrel" market?
Question marks... will it run in true nasty dust conditions? Will it be as smooth/smoother than the competition in those same conditions?
Upside... half inch shorter bolt throw, known manufacturer with benchrest accuracy capability
Sheldon. Answers. Some built in space for harsh conditions. Super exacting final lockup for top accuracy. You can have the entire action coated ask jim he has a specific coating he recommends. You can do just the bolt as well. All actions come tuned specifically to your trigger. 80 degree throw. Slight cock on close for faster smoother bolt manipulation. So there's that
I will also say this. Watch how quick and smooth that action runs!! I don't care what action you are talking about, they don't seem to run that fast and smooth right off the shelf. I've shot several custom actions and handled many more. That think is fast and butter smooth.
Also as to the pre fit option. It's going to depend on how good your Smith is. What I mean by that is the tolerance from 1 tenon back bore to next are so tight, jim can forward the information to your Smith to spin and chamber your barrel w/o your action needing to be there. So while there isn't a "pre fit" supply, once your Smith that you trust to keep good tooling and tolerances, has the information, he should be able to spin up a barrel and send it directly to you.

Ok so you are in luck. Jim is actually making a bdl hunting rig from this action. Just give him a call and he can fill you in.
Now as far as proprietary mag. 1st off it has to be, at least on the inside. We don't want to let too many cats out of the bag but one major issue I set out t ok solve was possible sources of friction during follower movement. It was my goal to have continuous even upward pressure from first round to last every time the mag is loaded. That can not be said for a "kit" ! There is movement of al the pieces of said kit. I've watched and heard shooters try them successfully for a little while but most run into friction and binding at some point. The bottom port of the action requires let's say the full size DSSF Mag to lock into aics bottom metal and still work with our proper sized bottom port. And at only 70 bucks each they are nothing but reasonably priced.

Response to Steve 123 on hide should go like this: normal Rem, Winchester and Ruger actions are partial cock on close. All I am doing is making action that is a SMOOTH partial cock on close. MY BR family of actions are fully cock on open and have neutral hand off on close. Only action on market that does that
Okay, I get it.
I read this on Jim's site a couple weeks ago, "These actions will be available with either the neutral timed handoff or with about .03 to .035 inch cock on close" time went by and I had it wrong in my mind at .3" instead, my mistake.
But still, it'd be cool if we could see the difference on video.

I've been running one as well as my wife for entire year so far. Action honestly is smooth as it can be. Not a single feed issue. I did have a couple but that was on me when I switched to dillon 650 to do brass prep and wasn't bumping shoulder back at all. Another shooter Jessie Cook has been running for about a month. There are several in various stages od dlc coating process and should soon be shipping out. Accurate mag had to make slight change in spacer wall placement. They should be shipped any day now. But I'll say even the prototypes Teresa and I are using run great. I made an extension to hold 12 rounds to test and that works great. Area 419 is making extensions for our mags. I have several videos of them running. Both dlc and non dlc. My Facebook is John Hargett. I can send them to you over messenger.
Thanks for the reply, I guess I do not need any vids of it working, as I am committed to buying one. I was just looking for a reasonable time frame w/o being a pain in someone's ass. I have all parts for a 6 BRA build and need a 3rd blasting rifle, if it was a lengthy time frame, I would just buy another Impact and build on it.
What do you know about that PVD coating?
I would suggest calling Jim at Borden Accuracy. He recently set up a whole new turning center to get actions done even faster to handle the load of orders. We purposefully got one action coated and one none coated. Even the un coated action is slick. I couldn't guess the coated would be any better. Well let's just say I'll be sending mine back this winter. Not a huge difference but it's nice. We ran them in the moon dust windy conditions of Oklahoma and neither needed cleaning or re lube or any maintenance what so ever in that environment
i was quoted 4 months, "twice", it took 5 1/2 months. Nothing u can do about it, u aint' getting that $300 deposit back if u cancel and go another direction. Another piece of advice, get a "written" quote on everything u want done and expect to pay and what the final tally will be. Don't rely on the phone conversation
