Breakfree Bore Cleaning Foam

Re: Breakfree Bore Cleaning Foam

I have been using it for over 5 years now it will never use anything else. Let it sit for 1/2 hour and wipe it off you are done. This works with corrossive ammo too if you shoot the surplus stuff in Mausers, Nagant etc... no problems, takes care of the carbon and copper fouling extremely well. I always have a couple cans of them sitting in the gunrage.
cheers

Re: Breakfree Bore Cleaning Foam

Is this a one step solution?

I would like to have something simple to fill the bore with while I am loading up the truck to leave the range and then wipe it out and be finished. Is it a PITA to get it out? Messy?

Re: Breakfree Bore Cleaning Foam

hydro, it is a one step process, cover everything you want to clean the fouling off with the foam, let it sit for around 1/2 hour (longer doesn't hurt but doesn't accomplish a thing)
run dry patches through the bore till they come out clean,(4-7) wipe everything else and you are done. The foam turn into a oily like liquid, blue means the copper is coming off, I ran over a 1000rds of corrosive surplus 5.45x39 through an Ak74 full-auto in one afternoon, that gun was disgusting, the foam took care of everything, it came out dark purple!!! after the treatment the AK was nice and clean.
hope this helps.

Re: Breakfree Bore Cleaning Foam

I've been using the Wipe-out products with great success. I can leave the foam in overnight, or combine it with their wipe out accelerator, and let it sit for an hour or so. I use the little finger cots (look like tiny condoms, just my size) to cover the muzzle, and stuff a rag in the action and let her sit

OMG, Texas just scored, time for another Brewski!!

it doesn't hurt blueing, parkerizing even paint, won't eat through varnished wood but will seep in oiled stocks over time so wipe off early and you are golden.

Beretta, bring beer and pizza and I'll show you how to clean your dirty junkers

Re: Breakfree Bore Cleaning Foam

I've been using that stuff as well as the generic one in the blue can (Gunslick?) for years now. They both work exactly the same. Just don't expect it to be a one step process. Yes, you can run 4-5 dry patches through and eventually they'll come out clean. But you can get that same effect with any bore cleaner. I suggest after you let it sit for 30 min to an hour to use a bore brush for several passes, then dry patch it. After 4 or so dry patches switch to Hoppes or whatever you use and wet/dry patch it till its clean (usually 4-5 passes of wet/dry).

Re: Breakfree Bore Cleaning Foam

Do they make a version of their product that cleans the carbon residue, but doesnt remove the copper?

I hate cleaning, then having to waste 20 rounds to refoul the barrel to get it back on spot
