My 10 year old has done a great job learning iron sights over the last few years, so now it's time to graduate to optics. Looks like she's getting my 1x4 SWFA with Mil-quad/Mil turrets to start. This is going to make the gun even heavier though, so I'd like to be able to attach a bipod when she starts getting fatigued from positional shooting. This will make for longer, funner outings.

Looking for something less expensive than a $100 Harris. Will be used mostly for prone shooting position in sandy or grassy areas. Short and light would be nice, but I'm worried about her having to fight the side to side cant with a fixed model.

It's hard to research the cheaper bipods. Very frustrating. There are usually very limited descriptions/specs by the manufacturers. YouTube is swamped with "reviews" by people who seemingly buy cheap bipods because of how they look, seldom describing their functional use or attributes.

Anybody know of a budget bipod that would fit this application?

Edit to add: this is the earlier M&P15-22 with the quad rail forend.

I bought a Remington VS .308 while back and it already had a Caldwell bipod on it. It was strong and took abuse at a few matches and never failed. I used it hard and was surprised how well it held up. I did replace it with a atlas only because my other guns all sit on atlas bipod.

/\ /\ /\ this.... I had a Caldwell on a savage MKII for a couple years of 22lr steel challenge matches and it worked great. When I replaced it with a closeout sale Harris I gave it to a friend for his S&W MP10 and it is still working today.

I've had a Stoney Point( or similar name) from WalMart on my MK 12 since 2005 and a Blackhawk! bipod from WalMart on my SR25 since 2012. Both have done fine. Granted, I don't play sniper on the weekend or do crossfit with my rifles, but I assume your daughter won't either. A sub $50 bipod should do fine. Either one I mentioned or the Caldwell mentioned in a previous post should be good for a .2 AR.

I was in a jamb several years ago and needed an "extra" bipod on short notice for some reason or another. I think it may have been needing a pic adapter and having only a swivel mount available or some silliness. Ran to Academy Sports (like Dick's but based in the southern US) and grabbed one of these cheap bastards:

its worked great for a lazy range day when I didnt want to move my "real" bipods around, and for $25 with a pic mount how angry could I have been if it sucked ?Same with the Blackhawk mentioned above, no idea where I ended up with one, but great for an extra rifle on the range if several people are shooting my toys.

I picked up a cheap TruGlo bipod for my 5 year old for is 15/22. Works well enough for him. Notched legs and ability to tilt. I really don't have any complaints about it. Optics planet has them on sale right now too. He uses a Harris HBH model the most though. He does most of his shooting from the sitting position.
