So, I ordered one of the Bighorn Origin actions. Here is the basic idea I have in mind for it.

.243 Winchester
19-20” barrel, 1:8 twist
Timney CE or Triggertech etc
KRG Bravo (or similar)
2.5-10x optic (already have this)

Most of the shooting I would do is maxed at about 850-900 yards. Just a simple, easily portable rifle.

Thoughts/suggestions? Action won’t ship til mid-August, so I have plenty of time to throw the whole idea out and go a different route if you convince me otherwise.

I'd get a 7.5 or 7.25 twist. Those will work better for heavier bullets like the 110 SMK or the 115's should you decide to use them. Maybe give you slightly more BC on the 105's too.

I don't like my TCE single stage, want to buy it???

I’ll look into the 7.5/7.25 barrels. I had a 7.7 on a previous rifle and it did extremely well with the 107SMK.

.243 is a good chamber but I agree with the above, there might be better 6mm options. Anyhow, at those ranges you mentioned, you should still be fine. I would prefer a longer barrel but nothing wrong with 20 inch if you want something portable and easy to move around with. With that said, since you want a shorter barrel, you'll be okay if you go with a bit faster twist. Maybe consider 7.5???

I’m not dead set on the .243, I’m just familiar with the round and have had good success with it in the past. I had thought about the 6 Dasher, but Hadn’t gone too deep into the other caliber options yet.
