Built me a new target frame.

Decided to try something different and wound up with this. Given it's size, it's pretty simple and can be set up by myself. Materials used were oil field pipe, 3/8" plate and chain. Everything slips together and I use a small come a long to lift the plate after the frame is set up. The frame is big enough to hold two 32x48 inch panels and the lower cross member will hold several small swingers. I have $75 and a couple hours of my time invested.

What was the outcome of that doe? Nice setup. How much does it weigh without plates? By that I mean, is it portable by yourself without a vehicle.

I like it. I just put one together using threaded black iron pipe (for easy transporting) and because I do not weld. Since I will be shooting in different areas and mostly hilly, the pipe frame is easily adjustable to accommodate a minor slope. Im sure you do not need since it looks like you will be shooting at your own location. It looks very solid!

The deer were safe. I saw alot of deer yesterday from my shooting position, 19 does in one group,9 bucks in another and 8 does in another all while I was shooting. While some were spooked most went back to grazing.


TLong, it's probably more weight than you want to carry several hundred yards. This one will eventually be at 1000yds after I do some more land clearing. I get 600 yards right out of my reloading room and can almost get 800 by going outside.


axeman, my ranch shop is 50x85ft with 16ft side walls, at the house I have a 30x40 with 10ft side walls.

Here is a video I made this afternoon using the stand The weather was bad for here, 42 degrees and a light rain.
Used a 20in Rem 308/Varget/ 168gr SMK, needed 16.75moa to get there. BTW, that group went under 2 inches, not bad considering the distance.

A suggestion for round 2, after it breaks.

Weld square tubing to the back of the target, probably 2" to run the chain through. About 6" down from the top should work.
Use bigger chain, if you can get it through the 2" tubing, it isn't to big. If you have access to even bigger chain, use a bigger Tubing.

We have Big J Bolts on the top of ours to hold the chain. This makes height adjustment a snap.

The chains and welds take a real beating on steel.

Nice Job. If you break a weld, or shoot a chain in two you might look into my method of attachment when you make the repair.

Looks like we copied the same frame. I had a lot of 3/4" rebar left from a job so we used it for the legs. We built 6 frames since we have six 2'x4' AR500 plates. All the materials were left over from other projects so the price was right. Takes two of use to get the plate off the trailer and hang it. Three of them are 3/8 but three are 1/2 thick and very heavy.
