Bullpup that shoots an AR barrel

Looking to setup a gun in the RZR or truck that's compact with the suppressor for small gophers but I'm curious is there anything out there that shoots AR barrels & how accurate can I guy get a auto bullpup?? The reason I would like to run a AR barrel is I run a 20 Practical and match barrels. Would like to get it close to my AR's that shoot .75 MOA pretty easy. Any help would be great Thanks.

Desert tech bolt action works well for what you are asking.

Don't think there is an accurate enough bull pup semi to keep you happy with varmints

Arguably if you aren’t stuck on AR barrels, you might want to consider a MDR if short OAL with a longer barrel is high your priority. Maybe get a 6.5 CM spun up and should be able to shoot moa.

Has anyone been happy with their mdr? I had high hopes. Suppose to be accurate, reliable , good trigger and light weight. All lies.

I'm tentatively happy with mine (as documented elsewhere in this forum), but at this point, I wouldn't recommend it as a varmint gun (though when the .223 conversion hits the market, that may change).

I freely admit that I am relatively early in the process of owning/shooting the gun, so it's possible for my opinion to change in a variety of directions based upon my overall ownership experience.

Jard J56 would be an option, I don’t have one but I could maybe get my hands on one to demo. You’d have to see if they use a standard ar barrel. Otherwise I just have a 10.5 inch ar with 7 inch can.

Thanks guys seems like the Bullpup has room to grow as far as custom varmit rig built on accuracy unless I want to go bolt. Seems like there would be a market for this room for a longer barrel in a package. I would leave the suppressor on & still be as small as a non suppressed AR would be the perfect ranch pickup-UTV yote-varmit rig.

I use a 10.5 pistol for hunting as it keeps my package a bit shorter. Ive shot it out to 200 which is about as far as I would be taking a ethical shot with that scope. Been using a Fiocchi 40gr vmax load that shoots pretty good.

I do have a Tikka .223 I have been waiting on the smith to cut the barrel down to 16 though.

I don't know why nobody has tried to make a bullpup based on the AR, but I think it's an interesting concept. Or would the AR-180 make a better starting point? I haven't researched the parts compatibility.

I've followed the MDR from the beginning, and there are certainly happy owners out there and the problems seem to be improving. There is at least one aftermarket barrel provider so far (ES Tactical).

I agree that there are a lot of benefits to a non-SBR suppressed package that's shorter than many SBRs with suppressors!

I thought the MDR was neat but tossed my factory junk 308 barrel. I used the gasblock and extension to build a 6.5X47 barrel with a little more meat on it. Slightly larger diameter and 18" resulted in a much improved accuracy and more reliable function. I also made my own gas port adjuster so I could actually use my suppressor without ripping rims off. Only issue now is the brass damage due to the ejection port cover scratching up cases.
I also made up a barrel in 338BR for subsonic heavies (300gr Matchkings at 1050fps) or supersonics (180gr Horn SST at 2350fps) with better accuracy than the factory 308. I had to make the gasblock for this barrel as it needs more piston surface to operate subsonic.

I shoot a Desert Tactical SRS Covert length in a lot of cals and as a bullpup its wonderful. I like the trigger and the ability to swap out barrels in calibers that fit .473, .535 or .585 bolt faces. I've made a number of barrels in odd cals for the rifles and they all shoot well. I can tell you that there is no way you can swap any AR barrels into one though. You need about 5" of barrel at 1.250" dia to lock it in the receiver. Not too many AR's even close to that.

I know of no AR rifles that are bullpups but someone must have done one at some time.

What about the old Bushmaster M17S?

I recall it being similar but not the same. It's been a long time, I had one in the 90's. It has a funky dual recoil spring, cheaply made, poor design prone to damage under normal operating conditions. Glad I got rid of that one.

If I got a bullpup today, it'd be either a Tavor or a Steyr.

In case anybody isn't aware, FYI the K&M is an attempt to update the design--the few owners out there appear to be happy. That's what Potss is referring to above.

I'm tracking the prototype:SENEX

SENEX MBLR-15... don't know about you guys but AR parts in a bullpup, fast bbl and caliber changes with AR18 style bolt carrier (What would Stoner do?😁)

Can you imagine Proof Research Carbon fiber bbl, 6ARC 1/7.5 twist in 12 in bbl for CQB... to 24 in bbl for long range (bbl swap is 1 min) ????
45 deg RDS, 1-8 ACSS LPVO or 3-15 FFP ACSS
Reticle scope!!! + thermal????

...and the support personnel version as 5.7×28 12 in bbl RDS/Eotech with Ruger57 RDS (30 rd mags for pistol and rifle) as sidearm? Within 200 yds for support personnel... that's poking a lot of holes and making people leak!!

Huuuuah!!!
